Is the Living Seas "broken"?

When we were at the World last week, we went to the Living Seas. There were areas that were roped off so you couldn't get close to the glass and there was an area near the dolphins that looked like it had cracked glass and light water stainage. I was wondering what's up!?!

I hope they fix it and all the animals are safe.

Are they still doing Dive Quest if the Living Seas is broken? My husband wanted to do it but I haven't called for reservations yet.

We visited the Living Seas last Sunday evening and there was a group of divers there during our visit.

There was some damage caused to The Living Seas during the hurricanes. I saw that water damage as well when I was there in Sept.
I'll be there next week so I'll have to check it out then...

What you saw likely has nothing to do with hurricane damage. The selective closure is due to additional "Finding Nemo" theming being added to the attraction.

You're speaking of the area down below that's closed. I was talking about up above in the aquarium area.

My DH did Dive Quest on Halloween and loved it. I didn't even notice the roped off areas. I guess we were too involved in waving to him from the 3rd floor observation deck to notice:D

It has been "broken" since they lost the sponsor. They have really let this attraction go downhill.

I totally agree, unfortunately. The last 2 trips we didn't even bother going in. But last week we did stop in because I wanted to see what they did with Finding Nemo characters.

Still no ride. No idea why they took this out.

2 of the 4 rooms on the ground floor were closed.

There was no manatee in the manatee tank.

The main tank seemed quite sparse in the fish department. It used to be much more populated than that.

All in all, I think if they want to close something seasonally, it should be Living Seas and reopen Wonders of Life.

We were just there on Thursday. I didn't notice the roped off areas...the kids loved it here. There were 2 manatees in the tank and a CM doing a presentation. The huge tanks were full...dolphins, turtles, sting rays etc...
Of course they had all the Nemo stuff but the fish were beautiful to look at anyway! We didn't do the interactive Crush part but otherwise I think we saw it all...

We went in The Living Seas when we were there in October on a whim. We thought DS (age 9) would be bored silly. We spent an entire hour in there. He sat and watched the manatees for the longest time, and the dolphins were playing. It was just a nice place to be, no real ride or spectacular attraction, but more in keeping with what EPCOT was originally envisioned as, I think. We enjoyed the time.

We went to the Living Seas a few weeks ago after a couple month respite. We had been spending time at the beach and fishing. It was cool to go in there and realize that most, if not all, of the fish in the large tanks are Florida natives.

We did see the roped off area over near where the dolphins usually are. At the top of the down escalator. It appeared to be water damage with a white crusty residue. Looked like it was from salt water, for sure.

It did not appear to be roof leakage. It was plainly tank leakage.

With the money ot costs to maintain that place, I don't see them closing it down. They'd still need to spend the money on electricity to keep the tanks running and the manpower to maintain them.

They can shut down Wonders of Life and save money on electricity and people cleaning it up.

But, I know what you mean. I love the living Seas. But it needs serious improvement.

From what they said during some of the manatee "shows" in the past, the manatees that are there are often "rescued" ones that are being rehabilitated to go back to the wild. So, there might be times when the ones they had have been sent back out into the world and they don't have any ready to go on display.
I think it's pretty sad though to see what happens when they lose a sponsor.
