Is a leapster too hard for an almost three yr old? Should I stick with my first leapad? We have the leappad but it is so huge and I'd love to get a leapster or lmax for plane trips...my DS knows his alphabet, can count to 20, knows all colors etc so do you think the leapster would be too advanced as it states it's for 4-10?

Your DS should be fine with a Leapster. My DD3.5 loves her Leapster. The Letter Factory (video, not a game) is great... both of my kids learned their basic phonics from it. DD also likes the Clifford Game. And the Ratatouille game is for that age... DD is getting it for Christmas.

Many of the games have difficulty settings, 1 to 3. Younger kids will want to choose difficulty 1 and as they get more advanced, they can increase the settings.

I really can't say enough great things about the Leapster!

As the above poster said, there are different levels of difficulty so the various games can be set accordingly. A lot also depends upon the child -- I have twins and got them leapsters when they were 3 and one child took right to it while the other twin didn't. However, now they are age 4 and both play and love it.

Yes and no...My DS got the Leapster when he was 3. He could play it okay, but he needed a little more help (remembering which was the pause button, little things like that)...and he didn't play it that much. (He liked it fine, was just more into other things at that age.) He did, however, really love that letter factory video already mentioned, because it was more watching and not as much he had to do. Another one that he liked was the Cars game.

He's 4.5 now and LOVES his Leapster. So much so, that I've made a rule...It's only to be played in the car, unless it is too cold/wet to go outside and play, or if he is at home sick from school. Otherwise, he would do nothing else!
