is the Gulf ok?

I am sorry if I sound ignorant with this question, but I have not checked the news in a while. How is the Gulf relating to the oil cleanup? I am thinking of planning a vacation to Captiva/Sanibel Island next summer and I haven't heard much about the state of the waters.

Also, has anyone been to this area recently? Where did you stay? I need a nice hotel that has activities for my kids, ages 9 and 6, so DH and I can have a day to ourselves.

Captiva is very far away from the site of the oil spill anyway, it never had a problem. It was some of the panhandle beaches that had tar balls, so I'm sure it will be great.

We are actually heading to Destin this weekend, I hear it is just gorgeous!

We were there in August and that area hasn't been affected at all. Plan away!

All is well in Captiva area, they never had an issue.

We also will be heading to Destin next summer.

We went to Ft Myers Beach and Captiva in early August and everything was incredible! No problems at all!

A lot of dispersant was dumped into the gulf. I don't think we will know the full effects of this for a while. Our government controlled media has swept this story under the rug. I would be cautious about swimming in that water.

Sorry OP, I just thought that was funny, but yes, Captiva area was never affected, and if anyone is thinking of vacationing along the panhandle beaches, they are clear and beautiful now too! (Actually they were never affected as bad as once feared they would be).

So, which is the better location for a fun-filled, family vacation? Captiva or Destin? Have not been to either.
