My family and I haven’t been to Disneyland since they implemented the new security check points. We’re planning a trip in the late fall and staying at the GC and I was wondering if anyone had any insight if the new security measures had reduced the crowds passing through the hotel. The GC is one of our favorite Disney hotels, along with the Polynesian in WDW but both of these hotels common areas have been extremely packed at times. Anyway, just curious. Thanks.

In both of my stays last year after the security changes, I have noticed it was much quieter and less crowded within the hotel.

Also, the security line to DtD and DCA (after the first morning hours of course) was never more than a few people. We went in early May and October. I have heard from others that during the holidays the security lines were longer leaving GCH, but we never experienced that.

Restricting the front entrance to GCH guests has both reduced crowds passing through and groups camping out in the lobby.

Well this is a nice bonus. I will be staying there at the end of July, and now perhaps I will have a chance at snagging a comfy chair for a relaxed sit down in the lobby. It is a beautiful lobby and one of the unique amenities GCH has to offer.

I agree - our most recent trip (in November 2017) was much quieter. I had never realized how many people were just passing through or hanging out before. It was really nice and we were all surprised at how much of a difference it makes. As a former Paradise Pier Hotel pardon, I feel for all those guests who can’t travel through anymore though.

FYI-the entrance is just restricted in the early morning hours. I use it often when I decide to just go and chill in the lobby or fireplace room for a bit. I was even able to use it on a super busy day last December when Disneyland Park had temporarily closed to new guests (DCA was still open).

Edit: I realized you were talking about actual entrance into hotel not park entrance! The hotel entrance is definitely always restricted.

This lobby is always crazy around check-in time (2-4pm). At any other time, it's very quiet and there are plenty of seats available.
