Is the dining plan worth it in summer?

When we visited Disney in Dec 2008, we had the deluxe dining plan and LOVED it. We loved the comfort of knowing that we did not have to worry about what we spent. There are 6 of us with 4 kids under 9. We will be going in July this time and staying CL(also did this last trip). While we said we never go again without the deluxe plan, now I am thinking it might not be worth it in the heat. What if we spend that much and nobody feels like eating. On the other hand, it might be nice break to have the hour or so in a cool restaurant. Any thoughts?

I loved the dining plan 2 years ago when we visited in July. It was pricey but it was so nice to sit in the a/c and enjoy a nice meal - it's a great break from the heat!

It completely depends on how much you plan to eat. If you plan to eat and nobody wants to eat, then your plan hasn't worked out if you don't have another place to spend those credits because letting them go unused will eat away at the value of the plan (assuming you booked it to save money and not solely for the convenience of prepaying your meals). Only you can determine if planning your meals in summer will work for your group. TS restaurants are air-conditioned.

I find I have less appetite in the hot summer months for big meals. I think the QSDP might be the best bet if you want a dining plan. You get more snacks so it's easier to munch your way through the day.

we are staying CL too but have the regular DDP. We have ADRs for lunch around 1:30 so we can sit in the AC for an hour or so then go back to the resort. We then have some later dinner ADRS. I plan to use it as a break. Have fun. Where are you staying?

If you really liked the Deluxe plan you can still use it yet eat fewer meals:

Book a Signature or special meal daily to use two of your meal credits. Book another meal to get an AC break during the day (start of day or lunch) and use those snack credits for hydration or cold treats while out and about in the parks or at the resort. The resort mug will certainly come in handy during a summer stay.
