we've never been to the brown derby and have heard very good things, so we are going there in december. is it worth 2 TS credits or should we go there for lunch and pay OOP? TIA!

You would be better off paying OOP. Lunch is less pricey anyway so it is definately not worth 2 credits

I also do not think it is worth 2TS. The food is fine, and service good but defintily not like the other 2TS locations. If the menu appeals to you, I'd go OOP for lunch.

I think it is... but it is all personal opinion.. We have always had good meals there, but we do not do the dining plan.. we pay out of pocket.

I've eaten at the Brown Derby 3 times. The first was nice, but nothing extraordinary. On the last 2 visits, we had horrible service. I've written this one off completely. So in a word, no.

We went once and did not enjoy the service or the meal again. Although we usually give each place two tries, we have avoided going back here because we don't think it is worth two table service credits.

Absolutely! We love the Brown Derby. The atmosphere is unique; the service is impeccable; the menu is always varied and delicious. Next to Jiko, it is our favorite. We haven't done free dining or the dining plan, but make it a point to eat there at least once every trip. My husband and I have eaten there over 10 times and each time has been great. No complaints from us. We can't wait to go back.

I don't any signature restaurant us worth 2TS now that they removed the appetizer - this is why we stopped doing the dining plan.

The Derby is a fine restaurant.

1) Strictly based upon money, it is a bad choice for 2-TS credits.
2) The 2-TS credits should cover at least $63 (entrée-dessert-beverage).
3) Brown Derby does not have that expensive of a meal.

That math is interesting. I just read this article on AllEars about it, and thought the estimate there was low. Always thought the "value" of 2TS credits was about $55-$58, then you have to add tip. Either way, unless it is "free" dining, I think it's better to pay OOP. FWIW.

I agree with most of the rest. I don't think Brown Derby is worth 2TS credits. I like it very much, but to me the Cobb Salad and a piece of grapefruit cake are what I want when I go there so the DDP isn't workable at all.

To me there are better 2TS places. Just a short boat ride away (heck you can walk it in 15 minutes) is Yachtsmen Steakhouse. I like that one way better.

We went to Brown Derby on September 1st. We were on the dining plan but we had made a last minute ADR at Brown Derby and paid out of pocket for our meals. Our bill was $90 something for dinner. If I was to be on deluxe dining I would use table services for this meal, but if I was on the basic, I would probably just pay out of pocket.
We do plan on going to Brown Derby on our next trip, it was delicious. :goodvibes

We went to the Brown Derby in Oct 2006, with our grand gathering group, and thought that it was not worth the two credits on our DDP. The food was o.k., nothing great. The waiter was very nice there though, my daughter who was 9 at the time, hated the kids menu after 10 days at WDW, and the waiter gave her a adult meal in exchange. None of the other restaurants would help my daughter from her suffering of mac and cheese, hamburgers, pizza, or hotdogs for 10 days! :worship:

Just returned from the Brown Derby, and I have to say it was a wonderful experience. We had amazing service, delicious meals, and even though you aren't supposed to get the appetizer on the DDP, we were offered one per person (not table as we suspected). We were also given 2 bottles of Evian no charge. We had dinner in a separate little room away from the main dining area called the bamboo room. There are only 3 tables in this room. No screaming children, just us. While we were eating 2 other tables came in, and they were offered the same as we were. The total for our bill (for 4 people) came to well over 220.00 and all we had to pay was tip since we were on the DDP. I would've hated to have paid out of pocket for a 220 dollar meal, but the food was AMAZING!! I highly recommend the crab cake appetizer, black grouper, and the pistachio cheesecake for dessert. Best meal of our trip, and we had some pretty amazing ADRs for the rest of the trip. But like anything else, what someone loves, someone else will hate. I say its certainly worth a try.
