Is Teppan Edo any different than my local (to die for) Japanese Steakhouse?

I see raves about it, but just wondered if it's an extra special experience? We love and frequent a couple Japanese steakhouses at home and usually like to try stuff at Disney we can't do at home.

Opinions?

Honestly, Shannon, it's not. It's plenty good, mind you, and it IS Disney, but we have two spots within five miles of our house that are better. Plus, a lot of items you get at your local restaurant are a la carte at Teppan Edo.

I usually discount the raves about Teppan Edo myself because we also have a great place nearby. I think that there are parts of the country (and world) where maybe they don't have Japanese steakhouses. So, for them, it is something special. I'm sure it's great, but I agree with you that I want unusual experiences at Disney. I enjoy Earl of Sandwich, but I know it's a chain, so I'm sure there are some people who wonder why it's so special to us all! :confused3

1) Good, yes.
2) Extra Special, no.
3) The chefs do not put on a show as good as some other places.
4) And, let's face it, the SHOW is the reason for the room.

I think the food is great and fresh but nothing better than a really good place anywhere else. And yeah, the show isn't quite as good....

That said it's one of my favorite places to eat anyways

I thought that Teppan Edo was almost as good as our local hibatchi restaurant. But it was so fun to be able to go to this restaurant, especially since it was at Disney. My kids love Japanese food, and one of their requests was to eat Japanese food, so TE was a great choice for us. The only thing I would do different would be to set up the ADR slightly earlier, because we wound up missing Illuminations since we were the last to get our bill at our table. BTW, we paid $7.50 OOP ea (we were on the DDP) to upgrade our steaks to Filet. Enjoy.

Do you know that 8 out of 10 local hibachi restaurants are owned and operated by non-Japanese? When my son found out in his younger years that the hibachi people were actually Chinese, he re-named these restaurants to China Sushi places. :rotfl2:
So there's really nothing for me to compare the real experience to.

It is alot different than ours! More expensive, they do not give you soup, salad or shrimp included in the meal and NO FRIED RICE!

That is why we do not eat there and save the $$ and eat at the one locally

your local place is probably better and cheaper, but I guess Teppan Edo will be more special since its DISNEY
