Will Olivia's let me take out my meals?? Is there a number I can call to find out for sure?

When we were there in December the official stance was that they do not have take out. Don't know if there are any exceptions made or not - you could call the resort and ask for the restaurant desk.

I think there was a thread about "I can't take my pancakes back to my villa at OKW."

I was told no also.

Now there may be ways around it but it would be a little sneaky. You could just sit down and order and then before the food arrives ask your server to box it up for you. Even then you might need to have everyone there which really defeats the purpose of To Go.

With the constant policy changes lately, who knows give it a try and report back.

I really miss To Go I know that and since they force me to go out I might as well go off site. Not far at all from OKW.

It seems to be becoming a WDW-wide policy. No take out from Table Service restaurants at the resorts.

Makes sense unless they have a seperate entrance and waiting area for takeout only.. Gets kind of tacky and detracts from the atmosphere of a nice sit down resturant. IMO

They used to have a separate entrance and waiting area for takeout only at OKW. It is called Goods to Go. In the good old days, you could order any item on the Olivia's menu for takeout through Goods. You received your pager and could wait at one of the outdoor picnic tables or at the bar next door. It very well may be the post dining plan change I miss the most.

The problem is the dining plan. People were attempting to use Counter Service credits for Table Service meals by taking it out. Ala Beaches and Cream.

I thought it had something to do with the DDP, well I would have no problem having a TS charged for take out from a TS rest. I doubt if I would ever do the DDP myself and am probably way to honest to try the switcheroo(CS for TS).

Exactly.

This is an unfortunate side effect of those looking to game the system.

The changes generally end up hurting the average guest/member far more than the abusers.

What should have been done is to just be firm with the policy. Instead of doing that they simply avoid all potential confrontation by eliminating To Go orders all together.

Same at Turf Club at SSR. In fact the Chef was just downright hostile about it. He said people have no idea what a difference preparing something to go makes versus eating in. He also said they don't really have the proper containers to go for full meals unlike leftovers.

I did not ask again. We had one member of our group not feeling well and we were going to order her meal to go, but hey it was not a big deal we just got her something for Artist Pallette.

But I agree with Chuck, I don't think you will see any TS doing to go orders.

I can see his point, I know some of our local resturants don't do some items to go because they don't travel well.

I think it's a shame that to go food is no longer avail. at the sit down restaurants. Especially if you're staying in DVC and have a kitchen-etc. As far as the chef getting hostile about you taking food to go for your sick friend, that's just BS! Take it from someone that used to be a cook in some very nice restaurants, first of all the containers that are for leftovers should be very sufficient for a to go order-Please! Granted there may be some special things like sauces that may be a little bit more of pain to pack etc, but really not a big deal. I think it Sucks that the chef acted that way-when I was in food service, my goal was to have people happy and enjoy their food-I would've been happy to pack up some meals to go. It's really not much more work than just "plating" the food for guests that are eating in. And I don't understand how the DDP could've messed this up, if someone orders a TS meal to go, it should be taken off their credits as a TS meal? What am I missing?

Well I think some people think if they order take out that it should be a CS credit not a TS. I am sure most of us would have no problem with that, there must have been some problems with that so WDW changed the policy.

When we left SSR, about 9am on the DME, up comes a family about 6 all carrying trays with what ever the big honkin breakfast platter is at AP along with drinks. They wanted to bring the trays on the bus and asked the driver if he could drop the trays back off at SSR on his return trip! As they had to use the last CS on the DDP. Geez they could have gotten up earlier.

Wow. I wasn't aware of this policy change. I guess that it has been a couple of years since we got Olivia's take out. I was told that I could not use the Disney Dining Experience card to get a discount on the food that I purchased to go, but that didn't factor into my decision as to whether or not to get my chicken penne pasta one bit.

I guess it is a sign of the times. The internet has made it very easy to share all of the ways to beat the system and, as a consequence, the system has gotten that much more difficult to beat.

I don't think the Disney kitchens are large enough to accomodate a lot of "to go" orders. Most of the Disney TS restaurants don't sell "food to go". B&C discontinued food in the "to go window" before the current dining plan.

DDP customers may have created a demand for "to go" that the restaurant was unable to accomodate.

Takeout is not permitted from Olivia's. I believe this is a policy change, they used to allow it.

It's also possible to order from the Olivia's menu at the Gurgling Suitcase bar, but you're informed that you must eat in the bar area, you can't take the food out.

John, you'd better make sure they still sell your chicken penne, there's been a menu change too.

That is pretty much what I was told, the "demand" for to go, increased to the point they were unable to accommodate.

As to the Chef at Turf Club, had no problem with the reply, only the delivery of it.

DS is a chef, they can get a little testy when it comes to thier food, asking him to put a meal in a box or bag is like asking an artist to paint your bathroom.

I agree w/this analogy for VERY fine restaurants, but for most places like Olivia's which is nice but middle of the road food, it should not be a big deal.
