Booked for a week and I am concerned that so many people rank it as the worst resort at WDW...Why ? It looks great.

Any suggestions on best request on which section to stay? We have a studio kids are 10 and 8 and love to swim.

THANKS

IMO each resort is different, has different pluses and minuses, and each guest has different likes and dislikes. You will find out after you stay there.

The main pool is in the springs section, there are maps online that can give you a good view of the resort, pools and sections.

No need for concern. Like Bill said everyone has different tastes. Some people don't like that the resort is spread out. We have stayed there many times and love the resort. The grounds are beautiful and the atmosphere is very peaceful. Nice to go back there at night and find the quietness of the resort. I would suggested the Springs or the Paddock to be close to a pool. Enjoy!

Thanks...do you know if they have movies at night or marshmallow roasting like other resorts?

Last time I was there (wasn't staying but ate at the Turf Club) they were setting up the big movie screen by the Springs pool. I so think the answer to your question is, yes, they do..

We were initially disappointed last year when there was no availability at POFQ and we were offered SSR. We should never have worried. We loved it. Yes it's big but buses to the parks were frequent and quick in our experience and the bonus was that we could walk to DTD if we wished, a very pleasant walk in the evening. Alternatively of course there is also a friendship boat or a bus. All resorts have something different to offer but I have yet to find one I didn't like.

It's an awesome resort, we love it. We always request the Grandstand section with a sub-request of close to the pool. It's the first bus stop for pick-up and drop off and it's close to check-in. Also, being close to DTD is a very nice perk.

They do have movies every night by the springs pool and just behind that they have the marshmellow roast. They also have drawing classes and set ups in the Artist Palate quick service meal area. Which by the way is one of the few on DVC property that you also can get the 20%TIW for each meal. For the adults the spa is right there, and make sure the kids try out both pools since they both have good slides.

There are four pools at SSR: The High Rock Pool in the Springs/Carriage House section, which has a slide, hot tubs, and a water play area; the Paddock pool in the Paddock section, which has a slide and an even better water play area; the Congress Park pool, which is more of a quiet pool without slide; and the Grandstand pool, which is also like a quiet pool without slide.

It's a great resort but at a lower demand than all other on property resorts. I wouldn't worry about it. We're timeshare snobs and I wouldn't worry about a single DVC resort as being acceptable. I do think both OKW and SSR are an issue without a car and that there are resorts I'd tend to prefer though.

who is ranking it as the worst resort at WDW? Not me.

If it's someone who prefers a smaller resort or someone who isn't happy because you can't walk to a park from there, then that doesn't make it a bad resort, it's just not what the individual person prefers.

We have stayed there a couple of times and love it. There are movies at the main pool. You can walk to Downtown/Disney Springs (Congress Park section has a walkway to the Rainforest Cafe area and the main building has a path along the golf course that takes you to the West Side). DH loved walking over and getting a sundae at Ghiradelli in the evening.

I've never been there, but I was just chatting with someone who spent a few days at SSR in May and she couldn't stop raving about it. She loved being able to walk to Downtown Disney and thought the resort was beautiful.

My home resort is OKW love it and also stayed at the SSR many times including our upcoming July 2-6 stay luv it also.. Yes its big but good bus service beautiful grounds and good bus service enjoy..

Try to request a DTD view: it must be spectacular. I've never stayed there, yet, but I'm looking forward to try it.
It's not in walking distance to any park, but it is to DTD (soon Disney's Spring). This means a lot of dining and shopping options there, but also the ability to walk and take a bus to any other resort from the bus stop there. If you don't have a car, going to dine to another resort is not as inconvenient.

IMHO it has some of the best kid friendly amenities. The Community Hall team is fabulous - both within CH and its activities as well as hosting all the games at High Rocks pool. The other pools throughout the property are great as well. The ability to rent pedicabs and traverse the property is great fun. There is wildlife if you look -- rabbits, turtles, and such -- and the arcade is fun as well. Our DD 15 has grown up at SSR and she loves to come home.
For mom and dad, the spa, Turf Club as well as the pools/bars and general quiet are all great after all the "go" of the park. Enjoy -- SSR is fab, and as an owner, I'm happy to share it with you.

Fully agree. I've only stayed at 3 DVC resorts so my ability to compare SSR to other WDW resorts is limited, but we like SSR and have stayed there several times. We don't have young children so prefer Congress Park as it's quieter and just a short walk from DTD. Yes, it's a slightly longer bus ride to the parks, but over the course of the day the few minutes more is insignificant.
