Yes he is, but one would have never known it from the lack of mention that it has gotten from the main stream press. Americans knew within minutes that Larry Craig and Mark Foley were Republicans. The same is true from AP.http://newsbusters.org/blogs/ken-sh...ignores-spitzers-democratic-party-affiliation

"Just as occurred Monday night, viewers of Tuesday's ABC and NBC evening newscasts never heard the word “Democrat” applied to New York Governor Eliot Spitzer, nor did they even put a “(D)” on screen by his name as ABC did briefly Monday. CBS didn't announce his party either on Tuesday night, but Katie Couric had done so Monday night. The ABC and NBC newscasts, however, did put “(R)” on screen over soundbites from Republicans and NBC's Mike Taibbi twice referred to the reaction from “Republican” politicians.

Fill-in ABC anchor Elizabeth Vargas avoided any party tag: “New York's Governor, Eliot Spitzer, spent most of the day today huddled behind closed doors debating whether to resign after being linked to a prostitution ring.” On NBC, substitute anchor Ann Curry led: “Tonight, the investigation of New York Governor Eliot Spitzer's fall from grace is broadening...”

:rotfl: ,if he was a Republican they would be saying it every other word

interesting!

After the Larry Craig coverage, I thought republican was his first name .

Do people really not know? I think Larry Craig had it mentioned so often because people were like "who is he?"
Oh and here locally they are mentioning all the domocratic leaders putting pressure on him ect..
So I get the not mentioning it as Democrat Spitzer but they are mentioning that he was a superdelagate for Hillary Clinton.

It's been mentioned every time it's been on TV/the radio here.:confused3

Same here... all the articles I have read (can't tell you where, because I don't pay attention) had it mentioned as well.

No, people outside of the northeast may clearly not know.

Maybe people think he is a Republican because of all the headlines saying NY GOP calling for Spitzer to resign :confused3

Were you as outraged when Fox News continuously credited disgraced REPUBLICAN Congressman Foley as being a Florida DEMOCRAT? :lmao:

First of all, I'm non-political so I don't really care which party he belongs to, however, until I read this thread I had NOT heard that he was a Democrat.

I've been hearing a lot of snippets about this story for a couple of days now (have not had time to sit down and watch the news) and it's never been mentioned. As a point of reference, I live in Massachusetts and listen to Boston and Providence (RI) news stations on the radio and tv.

You must not watch CNN or MSNBC :rotfl2:

Indeed, front-page stories on both websites clearly mention his party affiliation. Consider, also, these articles:

From Reuters: "The threat added to pressure on Spitzer, a Democrat"

From MSNBC (Associated Press article): "few if any fellow Democrats came forward to defend him"

From the NYT: "The day began with anticipation that the departure of Mr. Spitzer, a first-term Democrat"

On the news this morning (ABC) Brian Ross had a little piece about it. It went something like this. "As his political enemies took their shots. (switch to Rep Peter King (R) New York) "To what arrangement he works out with the Justice Dept is really up him and his lawyers. Unlike Spitzer, I take no delight in someone else's misery". Is that a "shot" or just a fact?

Then they follow with his defenders.

Former mayor of NYC Ed Koch say Spitzer's "a very smart man and what happened here is clearly irrational behavior and we have to sympathize with him".

Ross ended his piece with "or take a deal with the government and close out a career brought down by sex".

No Brian, it wasn't just sex (which he could have had with his wife or anyone for FREE), it was illegal actions.

I doubt he would have been asked to resign for just an extramarital affair.

No bias there. No siree Bob. Eh, I mean Brian.

I know for sure that they've been stating "Democrat" when mentioning Spitzer in the news. I cringe every time they say it...and I've been doing a lot of cringing lately...

Of course, regardless of any amount of evidence to the contrary, those who believe in vast left wing conspiracies will never be satisfied, so what's the use in even debating the point?

Here we are, 48 hours later. I am talking about March 10, and 11.

They held out as long as they could. Maybe they figured they'd better start because someone might notice they weren't!!

when the story first broke the few articles I looked at (dont remember where) did not have it listed, I thought it was odd, I eventually found it but not right away

Spitzer tolerated no criticism.
A bit off topic but interesting. perhaps some karma here, but related to the media. From May 2006 WSJ

And then there's the AIG case, in which a Journal news reporter last year revealed that Mr. Spitzer had threatened to indict the giant insurer (a death sentence) unless the board fired its longtime CEO, Hank Greenberg. Mr. Spitzer has increasingly come up for criticism for that threat, smacking as it does of a complete lack of due process. Surprise! In March a Business Week story reported that "Spitzer's deputy, Michele Hirshman, denies that such a threat was ever made."

On a personal level, the AG has also struggled to explain away his penchant to threaten people in private. Former Goldman Sachs Chairman John Whitehead wrote on this page in December that after he'd published an op-ed criticizing Mr. Spitzer, the AG had called him to say: "Mr. Whitehead, it's now a war between us and you've fired the first shot. I will be coming after you. You will pay the price. This is only the beginning and you will pay dearly for what you have done."

This is hardly an isolated incident. Consider: Former GE chief Jack Welch confirmed last year that Mr. Spitzer told him to deliver a message to Ken Langone -- whom the AG is suing along with Mr. Grasso. Mr. Welch couldn't remember the precise words, but broadly confirmed a Newsweek account that the AG had threatened to "put a spike through Langone's heart." (A Spitzer spokesman later said this was a "hearsay account from a hallway conversation.")

A spokesman for New York Congresswoman Sue Kelly reported in 2003 that after Ms. Kelly disagreed with Mr. Spitzer over legislation that he felt would hamper his investigations, he hit her with a "slew of political threats and personal insults," warning he'd come to her district and "cause problems." Mr. Spitzer's office described the event as "spirited and frank." To which Ms. Kelly's spokesman bluntly replied: "The attorney general acted like a thug, and his office can try to spin it any way they want to."
