Is Space Mountain closed?

Is Space Mountain closing or just being renovated?:confused3

It IS closed, to be renovated :)

It is currently scheduled for re-opening on November 21st (IIRC), but that is a fluid date.

We are on our way home from WDW now, and much much MUCH to DH and my dismay is closed for rehab!!! I read somewhere where they are giving it a facelift, but I hope they don't change the ride... maybe just make it a little smoother! Toy Story Mania is awesome!!! Maybe he will like that or everest which is always a must!!!

Wait.
I don't know if this is a stupid question or not.
I've never been to WDW but Space Mountain Disneyland is my favorite.
And my trip is tomorrow, and I'm looking forward to dragging my roller coaster loathing sister on it, so is it just Space Mountain WDW, or is Space Mountain DL closed too?:confused3

We just got back from a short trip and were so sad that one of our favorite rides was closed. Tomorrowland was not the same without space mountain and the Wegway people mover

My uncle's, cousin's, father's, sister's, son's former roomate's WDW bus driver told us that it was going to be replaced with a track that flipped you upside down and then shook you hard to make the cash and change from your pockets fall out. ;)

What everyone else said... Personally I wish it was closed longer and made like the Disneyland one. Since that took two years, I'm doubtful they will make the same changes to the florida one. At the very least a smoother track would be awesome. New cars would be more awesome.

I'm pretty sure they are putting a new track and new cars in WDW too. I wonder if the height restriction will lower to the same as DL's then?

i'm pretty sure if they made Space Mountain like the one in Disneyland, I would be upset. SM at WDW is the only original one left.

WDW doesn't have the money to do all this...it would also take more time, three the area is way to small, its not like they can dig out the ground to make the length increase. plus with the more money Disney spends, the more ticket prices will go up.

The track layout at Disneyland is the same track layout that has ALWAYS been at Disneyland. They just replaced the actual physical track to make it smoother, which is DESPERATELY needed at the MK.... and is something for sure that is happening. Again though, it will be the same track as before, just newer and smoother.

I despise the cars as do most people I know 6 foot and taller. They are cramped and tiny and need to be replaced. The side by side DL cars are much more comfortable.

To my understanding, the lowering of the base 30 feet was for safety reasons. I'm not sure the MK one has the same issues. I also believe some of the rules in Cali are stricter than FL.

As for the story line, I couldn't care less either way. The DL story is interesting, if they do one at MK then cool, if not, no big deal. I just hope they get rid of the giant floating cookies... I mean asteroids. WDW has said the queue will be upgraded, the dome will get a new ceiling and the track will be replaced. That's all we know for sure.

I'd love to see Rock and Roll Space Mountain.
