Is something going on Sept 29- Oct 2?

We are planning a California trip for fall and I'm looking at going to Disneyland for the first part of the trip, Saturday Sept 29- Tues Oct 2. I chose these dates because they showed very low numbers on the crowd calendar and there didn't seem to be any big events those days. But now when I'm browsing for hotels, the prices seem quite high. I saw another comment on this board that HoJo's was booked up that weekend, so now I'm worried that there's some reason that there will be big crowds those dates.

Is there something I missed? Could it be that there's just a single big group booked at HoJo's and it won't really affect anything? Am I just looking too early and hotels will start lowering prices for fall closer to the dates? I've never visited in off season before so I don't really know the best time to book. Any advice?

I don't see anything on the Anaheim Convention Center calendar.

I know that when I called HOJO direct, they said we were lucky to get our rooms because there was nothing else available for our dates in Sept. They said there was a huge group that pretty much "filled up" their whole hotel. Don't know if they have anything available now, (people might cancel), but a couple days ago, there was a King room available. Call them direct. I don't know about crowds, but hopefully it will still be less crowded than summer, etc. Our AP dates were not blocked out during SEpt., so I don't think they are anticipating it to be too busy.... *crossing fingers* Try some other hotels :wizard:

There are a couple of conferences in the area that may be accounting for this. First is the Hot Wheel Collectors (estimated to take 300 rooms in the area) for I think the 28th - 30th. There is also a software testing company having a convention at the Disneyland hotel (Sep 30-Oct 5th), estimated to take 1500 rooms in the area. They start the 30th, but are offering discounted tickets for the prior days. Discounted rooms and tickets start on the 28th. Combine this with the California Realtors coming in on Oct 1-5 (some will come in early to go to Disneyland before the convention.)

We have been noticing this as well planning on going Sept 27-oct 3. I have been finding suite rooms are close to the same price as regular rooms, and all available.

I am also finding better luck going directly on the hotels websites then through Disney. There was a $300 difference for the Camelot...

It's traditionally been the annual "Gay Days" weekend. (I know this because it's my birthday weekend) so that may account for it.

Of course that isn't a room filling event, and it's back a week into October this year.

Hi! I am going the weekend before. The first time I looked...HoJos had tons of. Rooms, the next day it was almost filled.

I called and found out that they have large groups from Australia coming in during the end of September...

Australians you say? Interesting....that brings back memories of my backpacking through Europe days when all the youth hostels were always filled with Aussies. Good thing I always found them to be fun, considerate travellers for the most part.
Anyway, I'm curious about timing. Should I try to book for late September now, or are there usually discounts closer to the dates? How far ahead do you usually book for off season? I don't have any one hotel in mind, there are about 4 or 5 that would fit my criteria, but I would really hate it if I held out for a deal, then ended up paying way too much because I left it too long!

It is early to be thinking about Spring. Later in Spring is more common right now most people are thinking about Summer. In late Spring the Halloween dates will come out and serious Fall planning begins.
