Is social distancing practical at WDW vs closing
While the maximum risk mitigation is to stay in your house and not interface with anyone, we know in the US that will never happen, so what can we do to mitigate the risk to a rational level. Of course this is not the same calculation for everyone, but for those groups that are not at high risk for death or permanent damage from Covid 19 and can reasonably avoid passing it to someone who is, is there are level of social distancing that is practical for WDW to allow for, as opposed to just closing the parks
I think that we can all agree that it is not possible at regular crowds levels. So what would be practical at lower attended levels, say if WDW only allowed on site guest only in the parks. Not sure exactly how much that would reduce crowds, but and guessing it might be about 20% of typical.
What could WDW do at that level to significantly reduce transmission risks.
Lines are a big issue with social distancing, so how about your ride slot is ready text system where you can do a walk on/walk in system and maintain recommended distance between family groups (expectation or process).
Many rides could be improved by leaving empty rows between family groups and allowing time for some wipe down before loading even chain type rides could be managed with load car then empty car then wipe down car then reload car cycle Egress processes would also have go be adjusted to allow for spacing maintenance
Shows would also be possible by double skip rows and lateral spacing in line with recommendations. Anything in doors should have the HVAC system set up for 100% fresh air.
CS could move to ap ordering the table tags or delivery flags were there are not tables of course tables would have to be spaced to recommended distancing. TS would likely just need spacing.
Transportation which is essential public transport could use many of the same techniques as rides, but of course resorts where you can walk to the parks would be best.
Hotels would need many to make some public areas adjustments, but most distancing would be manageable by guests.
Of Course, this would all be predicated on maintaining a healthy workforce which is possible at a level with strong surveillance. This would also require guest fidelity in had washing and surface wipe down.
Some surveillance of guests(temperature) would likely be useful also
Not sure you fiscally practical this is as compared to a compete shut down if that becomes necessary
What are your thoughts
