Is Secure Flight going to make it hard traveling with children?

I keep reading articles on secure flight that suggest if you travel frequently with children you might want to think about getting an ID for them. What? I though children under 18 dont need ID! This is stressing me out. I added my child's middle initial (one of them at least-have two) but what is TSA expecting all parents to get a goverment ID for children? I thought it might be helpful to start a thread on everyone's experiences as they begin to implement secure flight in the near future.

I wouldn't worry about it . . . I was worried about that Middle Initial not being on my tickets. I made many phone calls and talked to a lot of people who recently flew . . . there are not any problems. I'm positive they will not even think about questioning the validity of your kids.

Remember that for now, all that SecureFlight involves is collecting the full name and other data at the time of reservation and pass it on for watchlist matching. So far, there's no time frame for requiring a match at the airport, though this will probably happen eventually.

Some news organizations have, unfortunately, been putting out some bad information in the past week in advance of today's new regulations. Fortunately, we here on the transportation board did a pretty thorough job of clarifying all this a couple months back, so we didn't have any panic here.

I know that it will take awhile for tsa to impliement these changes but why is tsa reporting it may be a good idea to get your child an ID when it is not required. On the website they have an article written by the NY Times that say even though ID will not be required you will have to give them all of your childs info dob etc and I'd may help prevent a secondary search. So what the heck does that mean?
