Is Savanna View at AKL worth the extra $$?

If we ever stay at AKL, we'd only stay in a savanna view room. For us, that's the whole appeal of the resort.

We have booked AKL twice and switched it. Once to the Poly and once to the CR. We spend a lot of time at the MK and are nervous about the travel time via bus from AKL. We'd like to stay there sometime in the future. I hope you book at savanna view room and get to see lots of animals!

We recently booked savanna view rooms for August. My DD4 (appropriately named Savannah) and I insisted that the rooms be SV. Although the point made in an earlier post about limiting to just "your" savanna is a good one. I'll have to make sure we don't miss out on the other vantage points.

We have stayed at CR, as well as AKL. As Ripley says, "Believe it or not..." Bus from AKL to MK actually takes less time than the monorail from CR to MK. I've timed it often, and was surprised myself. The bus from AKL to MK is non stop, while the monorail stops at TTC, Poly, GF, and finally MK.

That is awsome. I was thinking of driving to MK. Maybe we'll take the bus .

Driving actually takes longer! Drive from AKL to MK parking lot, tram from parking lot to monorail/ferry, monorail to Poly to GF to finally MK.

We always rent a car, and I have serious "bus issues". Still, even I take the bus from AKL (actually any Disney resort) to MK. Honestly, if it weren't for my "bus issues" AKL transportation to all parks is pretty good.

We just stayed at AKL - pool view. I was hoping to upgrade to savannah view for free or at a discounted rate but they were full. Although I am sure savannah view is very cool, it was just not worth the extra money for us at the time of booking. We loved AKL and our pool view and there are plenty of places to see the animals while staying there. On our last trip we stayed at WL and my DD would pick AKL over WL any time. In addition to seeing the animals, there are tons of activities! Even if you can't spend the money on Savannah view I would still give AKL a try.

BTW - I love your TR CampbellScot (waiting for a new chapter ) and think you and your family would love AKL!

Thanks for the info, and for the nice comment!! I've been trying so hard to catch up on work b/c of the "flu ban" that was placed on me, I haven't had time to sit down really get my chapter finished! I am sneaking in bits of Dis-ing though...I've never planned a ten day trip and it's a little more daunting than I thought it would be!!!

We have a savannah view and it was worth it definetly. I loved the animals.

We are trying to make our decisions for our trip in August. I was just wondering if others who have stayed at AKL w/ either the standard view or Savanna view can tell me if the Savanna view truly is worth the extra money?...

Ask yourself this ...would you want to look at a parking lot? pool area? savannah with animals viewable during the specific times during the day/evening?

For us we selected AKL to see the animals. A special and unique offering is the ability to do this right from your room. Our stay would not of been the same without the view.

Guest continue to pay the savannah view room rates and a new DVC is under construction so there is a strong following that would say yes. On the other hand there are numerous other Disney resorts offered too...where you can almost be guarantteed to find a large number of them who would say it is not worth it.

Bottom line..worth is an intangible that each individual evaluates with their own set of factors..be they right or wrong it doesn't matter...emotions are always part of the human equation.
