I keep reading how RPR is a convention resort. I have no desire to stay someplace that I will feel like I'm at a convention. But the place looked really nice. Is it good for families?

It is GREAT for families!

Our kids are 5,8,9 and they love the pool and water play area. There are ping pong tables and movies at night. Even a sand vollyball court.

The arcade looks decent sized too.

The convention rooms are seperated from the rest of the hotel, so they don't impact vacationers.

We have been staying here for the last 4 years, and absolutley love the resort. Has been conventions every year we have been, but like patster734 said, they do not have any impact on your stay. They are usually at breakfast quite early , and away most of the day, so it can benefit the pool area with so many people away makes more room for everybody else.
I think all the resorts cater for conventions , so its not just RPR

I wanted to add, I didnt even know it was a convention hotel the first 3 times I stayed there...

I agree RPR is not business like and is a great hotel and love the themeing and agree if conventions are going when we were there we never knew it :thumbsup2

don't worry and think that the on site hotels RPH or HRH or PBH are stuffy as they are convention hotels.

they let me in........

Mac,

No fooling us! We know you get the red carpet treatment at all of the Universal hotels!;)

We have stayed at the RPR about five times. Only once did we notice the impact of a convention - they took over the pool one evening for a cocktail party. Otherwise we never noticed them.

Umm I have stayed there 3 times and going back Friday - had no idea it was a convention hotel

The main corridor to the convention area looks 1/2mile long!!

Seen conventions there many times and it never got in the way of the rest of the resort!!If anything the people that do attend are party animals afterwords Met alot of kool people at the Bula Bar..:thumbsup2

It seems like it when walking it too! I've walked that corridor 4 times:

1. The first time, we had dinner reservations at Tchoup Chop, but were staying off-site (years ago before discovering the benefits of on-site). We had to park at the convention entrance instead of the hotel entrance, but the parking had free validation.

2. Used RPR's business center to check-in to our return flight because I didn't know that the concierge desk would do that for you at the time.

3. Did the Luau, but the normal Luau location was being refurbished and so our Luau was located on the back lawn at the time.

4. A couple years ago, we took the bus back from PBH which dropped us off at the convention entrance.

We are staying at RPR in April 22-23. We stayed at the HRH when it 1st opened. We loved it! We are going back with 2 kids this time and thought we would try RPR, looked a little quieter. Looks like tower 1 is good if you can walk to the parks easily. Is it a short walk? Have a 5 and 10 yo and will be tired after long day in the parks. We plan on 1 day at Universal, 1 day at IOA, and last morning by the pool until we head to Port Canaveral. Do they have a place to change out of suits by the pool? At Disney had to use room key to get into bathroom and when we checked out our key was shut off.

I'd guess-estimate the walk is around 5 minutes. Be sure to cut through the pool area instead of walking around it, otherwise add a few more minutes onto your walk. Even with the short walk, we use the boats often.

As for your pool question, I haven't used the pool, so I can't answer that one. Hopefully someone will come along with the answer for you.

I was also wondering if the pool has a slide? Slides are big for both of my kidos. I'm pretty sure that HRH pool area has a slide.:confused3

there is Not a slide at RPR, there is a water cannon play area.

You can pool hop over to the other pools if your so inclined.

We had a late checkout last year, but the previous year we used the Fitness center to shower and get changed.
