Is renting points a good option for spring break time?

I am looking at planning a vacation for March 21-2 of 2008. Yes I know it is Easter week--but I'm a teacher and that is our spring break.
I am looking into getting a resort room for March 21-22, then renting points March 23-26. I used to be DVC and know points are much more expensive Friday/Saturday so I am avoiding those dates. I am trying to post on the rental board--my first title didn't meet guidelines ;) --to see how many points I would need and if anyone has some.
Since this is a peak period for points, is this a smart thing to do, or should I just bite the bullet and get 6 nights in a non-DVC room? I have 5 in my family so I need a 2BR. I'm not even picky about which resort--I just thought it would be some cost savings over a non-DVC room, but since it is Easter week I"m wondering if I'm just fooling myself.

First, you view the points chart by clicking at the top of this page (DVC Point Charts--just under the banner, to the right)...I looked up SSR and BCV (2-bedroom Sun-THurs) for your dates...points required are 45/night at SSR and 50/night at BCV...

Next, the key will be finding someone willing to rent you points early enough to make the reservation...we're 8 months out now, so you might find someone who can book w/home resort advantage "now" (it's possible SSR & OKW still have some availability...and it's also possible altho less likely that a Wilderness Lodge, Beach Club, Board Walk, and/or Animal Kingdom owner could find availability for you, too)...by next month all DVC resorts are open for booking to all DVC owners, and availability will be less--but it's still possible.

Since Disney wouldn't let me make cash reservations for January just this morning (said 2008 rates aren't out yet), I suspect you'll have no trouble booking March once the 2008 room rates are released, so you have nothing to lose by waiting before booking for cash and trying to find someone willing to rent to you...the R/T board is definitely the place to go...

Given that the time you want to go is "high demand," both for DVC and for regular Disney resorts, I'd say the sooner you try, the better your chances...and supply & demand being what it is, I would also anticipate higher price-per-point for Easter week than might be the case for a lower-demand time of year...but price-per-point is entirely up to each owner who's renting, so it's hard to predict...

Good luck to you!

Wow--I guess looking at the average of $10 per point of renting, that would be $450-500 a night. And OKW is just 41 points a night. If I could get that, it would beat the cost of most deluxes except the Contemporary garden wing. Maybe this will work out!

You'll want to get working on getting that reservation pretty soon to lock it in. Lots of points are now going for anywhere from $10-15 a point.

For Mar 21-26, you'd need 323 points for the five nights at OKW.

AKV 1 BR will sleep 5 which should make the points less although it is doubtful you will find them at $10 a point.
