Is rain a problem?

We're about to embark on a week-long trip that will be our 2-year-old's first time at WDW. But the extended forecast is calling for lots of clouds and at least a 30% chance of thunderstorms every day.

Should I be bummed out?

That's the normal forecast!!! You will usually get an afternoon splash and dash that really won't affect much. However, Florida is getting more rain this year. Regardless, it won't mess with your vacation. The weather tends to move fast thru WDW.

No, not at all. 30% chance of T-storms is pretty much the daily forecast here in Central Florida. The t-storms are generally short in duration lasting only an hour or two at the most. Do be mindful of the lightning down here though. Don't run out in the open or out to a parking lot to a car when a storm is going on. We hear about people getting struck by lightning all the time down here....

Hopefully the rain won't be much of a problem for you. My kids and I went in February and the day we spent at MGM it was raining/pouring off and on all day but we had a great time and quite a few laughs that day. The only thing I would suggest is bring some dry socks just in case. We all had wet feet that day and I believe that is what caused oldest DS and I to get blisters and very sore feet for the rest of the week. I did buy us some dry socks at a gift shop in MGM but I think the damage was already done. Bring some ponchos and dry socks and I think you will be good to go. :sunny:

Bring ponchos--when its pouring those lines really thin out & you'll be riding in no time at all! We actually look forward to a few rainy days! last time it poured no line for ToT or RRC etc. We rode 4 times in a row! :sunny:

One of the best days I ever had at WDW was a day when it rained all day. I was at the Animal Kingdom and the crowds were non-existent. Got to sit up front for all the shows and even went to most shows twice. Some of the bathrooms at Animal Kingdom have those really powerful hand dryers so I was able to get dry and warm when I needed to. The only thing to remember is that you need a minimum of two pairs of shoes on your trip because when they get soaked you'll need some dry ones for the next day. :earsgirl:

Unless you really care about being wet, it's great.

People go away, it's cooler.

The only time I don't wish for rain is Fantasmic!/Wishes. Other than that...let it pour, baby!

When you "analyze" that forecast, it means that it probably WON"T rain!!! Turn it around and it becomes a 70% chance for a dry day.
And as noted, that is the normal forecast. So if it does rain, the forecaster can say "See--we said there was a chance for rain!".
And if it dosen't rain, they say "See-we said there was only a 30% chance for rain!"
The correct forecast no matter what happened!!

Don't worry about the weather, don't even look at the forecast. just look out your window once there, that's all you need to know.

the only time it really is a factor is fireworks and parade.

When we were there (7/10 - 7/17) it rained most days mid-late afternoon. I would imagine that your 2 yr. old would need some rest time so it could work out perfectly for you if you plan to go first thing in the a.m and go back to your room for a break.

If you can hit the parks at or close to opening (especially MK) you can go all through Fantasyland, etc. without the long lines and stronger sun and heat of the day. If you have the energy, go back in the evening for the night time events (Wishes, Spectromagic, etc.)

The only thing we saw impacted by the rain was the afternoon parade on some days. The crowds watching were definitely smaller but people did stay. Get some inexpensive ponchos to have with you in case you get caught by surprise but the typical rain time is afternoon so you really can plan your schedule around it.

Have a great time!

Bring a pair of sandles (that buckle around the ankles) in addition to your sneakers. At the first sign of a drop of water in the air, switch off your sneakers, pop on the ponchos and be on your way ;)

Bring a bag in the backpack to hold the wet stuff so not everything is soaked when switching back to your dry. See you there! :)
