Every time we go down to disney, we always miss going into the little radio studio. My kids really want to go this time. I do not see anything about it anymore. Do they still broadcast from mgm? Are you allowed to go in? Are there special times? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Earlier this year I was reading about them closing the station at MGM. I don't remember when it was going to close but April 1 or April 30 sticks in my mind.

Also, there have been rumors that Disney is trying to sell the radio network.

Radio Disney is most definatley closed. This was always a highlight of our kids when we visted MGM. BB always seemed to remember them and they enjoyed hearing their names on the radio. On our last visit (03/04) BB told us that she was relocating to Dallas (close to our home) and that the studio would be closing.

My kids loved to see BB at the radio station..we listen to it all the time & they were so excited to see where it was broadcast from..last time we were there BB said my kids names over the air & gave us a tape of it! We are going to miss it! That stinks!

boo hoo, I am very sad that they are not there anymore. What is there in its place?

An empty radio studio...unfortunately.

where was it? I dont think i ever saw it!

It was right around the corner (left side) from the Sounds Dangerous entrance,

I thought it was great they had live broadcast from mgm studios. I still have xm satellite radio, and enjoyed listening to BB when my kids were younger. Seems like the special little things get removed and some of the dead weight (sound dangerous show) stay.

As I was going to start a thread about Radio Disney, maybe I'll just write here.

When I was in college, I worked at (one of) my college's radio stations. I knew then I was going into radio, and here I am... Anyway, the station was WERS in Boston, and one of the shows I worked on was called "The Playground." On Sundays (and eventually on Saturdays too), we played music for children, and I'd say 95% of the songs were by request. The music selection was largely from Disney and Henson and other child artists (not so much the likes of Raffi, more for older kids I guess), and a bunch of show tunes.

While I was there, the host/director of the show, the person who essentially made it the hit it was, I believe had a meeting with Radio Disney, back before they launched. Instead of taking a Playground-like approach though, they made Radio Disney what it is, which in my listening experience was a kid's slanted version of Top 40 radio, plus teen-styled Disney artists.

So what do people think of Radio Disney? Do you like the format? Do you think there's room for a Playground-like show on the network?

I've noticed that on the Disney jobs site, they're looking for people for Radio Disney in different markets across the US, (sales people, I believe). Why would anyone take a job with a company when the rumors persist that Disney is looking to sell the division?

They do have special events there. On a recent trip this year I saw Sean Hannity broadcasting his radio show from there.

I definitely think that there is room for a Playground-like show on Radio Disney. My nephew used to wait everyday for the Playhouse Disney hours. It used to keep him happy during car rides. My only complaint was that it wasn't long enough. I loved the music as much as him! :goodvibes

My 7 yr DD loves Radio Disney and is always trying to win by calling in or typing in the code word of the day. She has never won anything nationally but has won a DVD and movie tickets locally. I feel it's a great family oriented radio station that is safe to listen to when there are so many "little" ears in the cars and so many "terrible" songs on the radio!!! :rolleyes1

my kids are 8 & 10 and we love radio disney. I agree you do not have to screen this radio station and keep your hand on the dial waiting for them to say something bad like other radion stations.

I believe the talk about selling refers to the actual stations Disney/ABC owns, not necessarily the programming end, which includes RD.

In any case, I like Radio Disney. It's nice to be able to listen to pop music around my kids and not be embarrassed or mortified by the content I hear! Plus, when I was in high school, I worked at the same radio station BB worked at. She's a really sweet person!
