is parasailing scary??

I agree with everyone in favor. We did it at CC when we went on our first cruise back in June.

It's not like being put into a parachute harness. You actually are in more of a seated position and it is actually quite comfortable.

Parasailing is amazing!

Is there risk? Sure, there's risk to anything. But it's minimal. They do everything they can to ensure your safety. I know someone whose mother died in a parasailing accident, and I still do it. Freak accidents happen.

It's worth it, so much fun!

We did it this past September and it was totally worth it. As a pp stated, it's very relaxing. I have a 8yo son with some anxiety issues and he was skeptical at first but then loved it once he got up in the air. I wasn't concerned about safety at all. Great excursion!

I have a POV parasailing youtube video from CC somewhere out there if you want to know what it's like.

I had a blast when DH did it. But then, I was in the boat laughing my tush off. I mean, you have to remember, you are that boat driver's personal kite. With my DH, the driver suddenly stopped the boat and so my dh came down and his feet almost touched the water before the driver floored it and sent him shooting back in the air. It was hilarious and I got some great pics.

I've been parasailing in Maui, Oahu and castaway. I LOVE it!!! It's so peaceful to me.

Hubby , on the other hand, didn't like it. The heights affected him more than me.

I would go again with or without him in a heart beat!!

We parasailed on Oahu...so peaceful! I would like to do it again someday!

dgd is getting even more excited about doing it. so that makes me realize(along with all the good posts) that it is a good thing. if you are going to it, this i feel is the place and time. what an experience this will be for her. thanks for all the posts.

At the time DH, DD(8) at the time and I did it. DD hated it. Cried from the time she went up and yelled until the time she came down. Swears she will never do it again. It was her choice to want to try it. DH and I are going to go up again this year without DD. We loved it as adults.

DH and I went parasailing last year in Gulf Shores. It was very QUIET up there. We enjoyed it, but now after learning there are no government regulations on how these companies run, I would not do it again. Just knowing the risk involved would ruin the enjoyment of it for me.

Not to get too off-base but I don't think government regulation would help much anyway. The nice thing about doing it at CC is that there's nothing to crash into really at all. They take you way far away from the ship so if the line breaks you float down into the water.

Side note, found the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1rQWVg2_f4

I'd venture to say you have just as good, if not better chance of dying in a car accident...government regulations and all.

i was kinda wondering about the one post of people crashing into buildings. i have only seen parasailing at a handful of places but all were building-free. so where would something like that happen?

i understand the operator has to be approved by Disney. sometimes i wonder if Disney may be more strict than the government anyway, i mean as far as safety goes and such. i would think Disney keeps a good eye on things.

This case was in the Florida panhandle. But at many places - myrtle beach, etc. - while you ate on the water, if the cord breaks and a sudden wind blows up, you are at the mercy of the wind and yes, it can keep you up enough and blow you far enough that you aren't just drifting down to the water.

I don't think we have to worry about buildings out there. I was surprised how far away the island/ship are. i am sure they wont let me ride on boat as an observer, so i will be watching from beach and they will look like specks so far away. i knew dgd8 wanted to do it but i had her watch video of a girl around her age and a parent doing it on cc to make sure. the girl said "i am flying". now dgd is excited to "fly." will all the good responses, i am feeling alittle less nervous, thanks.

Instead of the beach, a better observation point might be the top deck of the ship. You could hang out at the marina until they board the parasailing boat, then go back to the ship to watch. Our parasailing was done on the other side of the ship, away from the beaches.
