Is PAL MICKEY worth the cost?

We just got back from Magic Kingdom and Epcot on August 5th. My 9 year old son really was interested in getting a Pal Mickey (7 year old daughter wasn't too interested.) We strongley considered purchasing it, put decided since it was so hot, he would be a hasssel to carry around. I think we saw only two Pal Mickey's being carried around the parks. I was surprised. I thought we would see more.

thank you for the info. we had a "Family Discussion" and i think we are only going to buy one for the family. we explained to the kids that they would have to carry them around and they decided that they wanted to take turns.

We are doing the same. I told the kids that Pal Mickey was going to be Mom's souviee. They could each pick their own. They both say they'll be picking a goofy hat (their favorite character). Have a fun vacation!

. He must be facing forward though as you enter the parks or he can't download information, since his antenna is in his nose.

so if he is in a bag when you enter the park, you won't have any info? or can you hold him up afterward & point him someplace?

I took the clip off of my Pal Mickey 1.0 and attached a lanyard to him instead. It worked great. For rain I cut a small hole in the top of a plastic food bag and slipped it over the lanyard. Presto! Pal Mickey stayed dry and clean but I could still hear him. Mickey in the bag seemed to upset some of the CM's...they thought I was suffocating their boss.

Mickey gave me very little temporal advice ...which was the main reason I bought him. I asked about it and apparently he'll only tell you about short lines if its 10 or 15 minutes...so walking around during the day in peak season he won't have much to say on this subject. He DID tell us when a special show was coming up in EPCOT so that we could wait for it.
