Is overbooking rooms common at WDW and has anyone been bumped?

Just wondering if this was common practice at WDW or maybe a rare occasion from time to time. I know so many of us put so much time and effort into picking exactly the right resort and then once we pick our resort our entire stay is planned around staying at that resort. Even if I was offered an upgrade, I think if we got bumped from our resort I would be so disappointed because I have planned for soooo long. Just wondering if anyone has had this happen to them. Our trip is only 21 days away and for some reason I am in panic mode thinking of all these different things!

Because Disney collects deposits on almost all reservations, and a lot of them are prepaid, they overbook less than other hotel companies. The chances of being bumped are pretty slim, but may occur due to emergencies (ie a plumbing leak/flood, etc). That's my take on it, at least.

Having said that, I volunteered to relocate myself from CBR to POR one night as a convention was checking in. I was speaking with a CM at check in who I had dealt with before, and this time he looked like he was going to cry. I asked if it would help if I moved to POR, and they were grateful for my offer (I wasn't asking for anything or looking for anything, to me it was an easy move since I prefer POR anyways)

When people have been advance relocated due to renovations, Disney seems to do a good job of finding them similar accomodation, or even upgrading them to another job, based on reports on this board.
