Is Oprah a Scientologist? Why do I care?

Somebody slap me.

I'm actually posting a thread about Oprah.

Is she a Scientologist?

She seems to have that "dress like me, like what I like, watch what I watch, read what I read, blah blah blah attitude."

Does anyone else find her completely annoying? :confused3

I used to really enjoy her. I don't know exactly when she went from talk show host to saint. It probably started with the Angel Network, but I think it got to an obnoxious state after she lost weight the last time. It was like she suddenly had all the answers to everyones problems. I give her credit for all the charity work she has done, but it doesn't seem like any of it is done without there being a show about it.

Yep pretty much what you said.

I'm not her biggest fan.

One day they are talking about child soldiers in Uganda and the next day it's about how to wear jeans that make your butt look smaller. :confused3 It's as if the show has ADD.

:rotfl2: The show has ADD :rotfl: That is so funny.

Well slap ME--I opened a thread about Oprah!
She is a bit much, isn't she? Sometimes I like her and sometimes I want to throw up. In her general direction. :p

I used to like her but the past 5-10 years not so much.

She comes across as almost boastful sometimes. A show about her house her and there and how it's decorated blah, blah, blah. I really don't care.

I rarely watch her anymore.

I also used to be one of her biggest fans but not so much recently. She does seem to have this "i'm better than you" quality about her recently. I heard a story that she made the Broadway show that Julia Roberts was starring in wait 15 minutes to open the curtain because she was running late. That's just rude.

I have suspected for the last few years that Oprah was a Scientologist. A lot of her "experts" have links to Scientology. She won't tell the audience this during the interviews. I can't confirm but I have my suspicions.

I like Oprah but her reality is not everyone else's reality.

I just caught a few minutes of Oprah today where she talks about an upcoming special on ABC on Monday night. It's something about a celebration of Legends. ??? Anyway, the clip she aired about the special showed all of her "legend" friends being treated to a fancy, smancy party and being treated to a special gift that each one got to open. The look on the faces of her friends make you want to wonder what the special gift is that they opened. The clincher is you have to wait to watch the special.

All of this reminds me of a tour I took at the Palace of Versailles a few years ago. We got to view one of the banquet halls where the royal family would eat their dinner at night. It was much like a theater. The royal table was on what looked like a stage and invited guests (maybe commoners - I can't remember) got to sit in the audience and in the balconies to watch the royal family eat.

This kind of reminds me of what Oprah does to her audience at times. It's like saying - this is what I get to do and you can see the fun I have. She also notes that you, too, can throw your own legend party with your friends. Somehow, I don't think mine would have the same look and feel. :teeth:

Well-you might be able to get TomKat to appear. They'll pretty much show up anywhere :teeth:

I don't feel like I have to live like Oprah, wear what she wears, like what she likes, read what she reads, etc.

I will state that I am a fan of her book club and have enjoyed most of her picks. I mainly like (in the older shows) the author/reader discussion groups. With her more recent picks (Hemmingway, Buck, etc.), you don't get to meet the author, but I find the discussion shows very interesting.

Yes, she goes from an intense piece one day to a fluff piece the next ... for a reason. Would you want to watch intense pieces day after day after day? Wouldn't you want to lighten the mood a bit? I think she gives us an equal dose of what's fun, entertaining, serious or informative.

She sure beats the heck out of crappy Maury "You Is My Baby's Daddy" Povitch. Talk about crap tv -- that's Maury!!!

no, she doesn't need to follow a cult ..she has has her own cult following.
You aren't kidding!

I used to love Oprah, 20 years ago. But now she's like some kind of leader with her followers or something. It is creepy. She's just too much.

you could combine Oprah, Dr Phil, and Jerry Springer into one show and have something really entertaining.

You cheated on me with my sister(Springer) sleeping on $2,000.00 sheets recommended by Oprah and Dr phil could try to straighten the whole mess out in 1 hour!! :thumbsup2

I just don't understand the Oprah thing at all.

I respect her a lot. She is one successful woman and I am proud of what she has accomplished. Good for her. And no I am not an Oprah cult member.
