Am curious if OKW is the only one that has 2 queen beds in the one bedroom home??? Im sure a king bed is great but when you have people who dont sleep together or like me, who dont have someone there to share (currently) and would be disrupted with them moving in bed or whatever other habits they may have.... wouldnt the choice to have 2 beds be just as good as a king???

OKW does not have 2 queens in a one bedroom unit. OKW has 2 queens in all studios and in the 2nd bedroom of all 2 bedroom units.

1 Bedroom units have a king in the master bedroom and a queen size sleeper sofa in the living room.

Other DVC resorts have a queen bed and full size sleeper in studios. Most dedicated 2 bedroom units (but not all) have 2 queens in the 2nd bedroom. Lockoffs have queen bed and full sleeper sofa in 2nd bedroom. All DVCs have a King bed in the one bedroom units.

Bummer... they should consider this then.

Do a search on beds in master bedrooms and you'll see lots of others have suggested all sorts of combinations and permutations on beds in the one bedroom villa. Two queen beds, one queen and two bunks, etc. But you'll see even more members telling you "DON'T TOUCH MY KING SIZED BED!!!"

I'm in the second group. Grrrrrrrr! ( ;) )

Those King size beds are so big! I have to go searching for my dh almost every night. :confused3

We've had this discussion several times and most people don't want that type of configuration. And it doesn't make sense from DVC's standpoint to do something like that.

It may not be. I do feel that there are people who this is beneficial for though. As a nurse, I see it more often than you would realize of people who sleep separately. And a friend of that person woud have no clue because there is no evidence of it because the person is either too private or is embarassed to say they cant sleep with their spouse/SO.

Im sorry I brought up the subject again that was posted elsewhere...i didnt find it and i looked through trying to find something.

Chuck, Deb & Bill and Disneybride... thank you for you info and points of views.

LOL...me too...but it is worth the hunt! :rotfl2:

Deb & Bill:

Every time this topic is brought up, I think of you! The first time I read one of the threads on this topic you posted your love on the king sized bed...begging DVC not to put 2 queens in! :rotfl:

Certainly, as with every issue here on the DIS, there are those that favor each side. Perhaps one DVC will make 2 queens an option in some of the resorts...and again, you would have to then request which kind you would want, etc. and it would add another layer of complexity to ressies. I guess we'll see if they make any of the new AKVs this way, but I sure doubt it....

Deb+KingSizeBed = True Love :thumbsup2

LOL, I would hate to "downsize" to a queen on vacation, and hated it the night we spent at PORS last spring! That wasn't even a queen bed there, and we felt so confined!!! Since king beds are kind of the norm for to flight timeshares, I doubt you will see DVC downgrading that much.

Please - I'm not trying to reopen a occupancy debate here. But I didn't see the old threads, and was wondering if you would mind giving a very shortened summary of the discussion.

In particular, I've always thought it odd that they don't put in some rooms with 2 queens to up the occupancy to 6. I would think there would be a ton of DVCers asking for such a thing.

Very shortened: I love my king size bed.

More lengthy: I have a king at home. If I thought I would have to sleep on a queen while paying the TS prices, I would not have bought.

Well, that is my opinion, of course! :thumbsup2

Sorry, not implying we can't discuss it again. Simply saying there is a track record for comments related to this issue. The overwhelming sentiment on at least 2 long thread's has been to leave it alone. Not only that, DVC has to function within a general timeshare system not to mention the rest of the DVC system. Not that there aren't sleep 6 1 BR units in the timeshare industry, there are. As a rule, the cost and maint fees are generally more in line with a 2 BR than a 1 BR, usually about 80-90% of the cost of a comparable 2 BR unit though it comes down more to square footage than sleeping it seem to me. I think most people have the idea that this will be a great and cheap option for a family of 6 for DVC, that is a fallacy IMO.

Check the Turf Club, but don't tell him I told you. :drinking1 :rotfl:

It will be interesting to see the point charts and floorplans for AKV since some (at least) of the 1BR villas will sleep 5 - bedding and linens provided - due to a convertible lounge chair in the living room in addition to the King Bed in the master and the sleep sofa. There will also be a second bathroom in these 1BRs.

I don't know if all 1BRs at AKV will have this configuration - so there may be two options, possiby as a confirmable reservation. I would assume the point values to be different than at the other onsite DVC resorts. Reportedly, the size of these villas will be larger than all except those at OKW.

It will also be interesting to see if DVC decides to be more assertive regarding enforcement of stated occupancy at the existing DVC resorts when there is a resort where the stated occupancy will be 5 - with beds and linens provided.

Stay tuned!

Studios which have 2 queen beds at OKW are very liveable.
they don't have the full kitchen or living room. I definitely miss the whirlpool tub - but there is one at each of the swimming pools.

of course if the problem is that one person snores. then I would go with a 2-bedroom - it only costs in points a little more than a 1-bedroom - but hey if you can close a door to this person it is worth it!!!

I hope they don't change the king bed master suite - its one of the reasons I bought DVC (that and the bigger bath tub). We have a King at home and sleeping in the queens at other resorts always feels swished.

That was my thought too, Doc. It might be that in the future if you want 5 in a 1 bedroom, you'll have to do AKV.

I also bought DVC because of the king bed, and the whirlpool tub. I don't have either one at home, but I have lust in my heart for them.
