I have heard that it is hurricane season in Oct. We are from the west coast of Canada and I was just wondering if we need to worry about this too much? Also, how hot will it be?
We will be on the free dining plan as we arrive on Sept 30. How soon do you think we need to make our ADR? I am having a tough time planning out my days! I can't decide what to plan for dinner in the morning much less figuring out where I want to eat on Oct 5!!

From someone in the insurance industry who sees alot of Florida business, October is the PEAK of hurricane season which runs 6/1 through 11/30.

Go have a good time and don't worry about the weather! :sunny:

Hurricaine season goes into November. We were there last year in mid-October when Hurricaine Wilma blew thru. It came thru during the night and by 2pm the next day we were at a nearly deserted Epcot. Disney opened Epcot and MK that day and to Disney resort quests only. Lots of things were closed including the F&W Festival because the cast members were unable to get to work.

Early October can be quite warm, usually in the high 80's, low 90's. Still quite humid but not as bad as the summer months.

I would make your ADR's as soon as possible. You're within your 180 day window. With the free dining involved the TS restaurants will fill up quickly. Just figure out which park you probably will be in, pick a restaurant that appeals to you, and make all your reservations at once. Here's a great link with all the menus http://allearsnet.com/menu/menus.htm.

Have fun choosing!!!

I have to agree with the previous poster-- make your adr's before you go. We were in Disney last year during the "free" promo and not a single world showcase resturant had any seatings open for dinner at Epcot. We must have popped into customer relations for a pin or something and noticed the dinning availabity board. Nothing for any sit-down resturant. I took the advice from this board last year and was not disappointed as I had a sit-down planned for each night.

While it was very humid and hot last year, and it rained almost every day we were in Disney (only a passing shower most days) we still did plenty and had fun!
Enjoy your trip :wizard:

We were at WDW last October when Wilma blew thru too... I'm going for free dining in Aug. As stated, anytime in summer through fall is hurricane season. Have a magical trip! :wizard:

We were there for Wilma as well....I slept through the whole thing. : :thumbsup2

Epcot was nearly empty, but it was chilly that day, so I'm making sure to pack a light jacket when we go during the free dining.

Here is our hotel (CBR) during Wilma... A couple of hours later we where at EPCOT... Enjoy your time, and don't worry

you can check the following site for hurricanes http://flhurricane.com/
I had my laptop on me (I need my computer, even on holiday) and checked every 5 minutes via this link where the storm was...

What can I expect weatherwise for our Oct. 21 trip? I know there is no way of knowing for certain what the weather is going to be like but I would like to have an idea. Do you reccommend insurance this time of year? We've never been this time of year and I'm kind of nervous about it being in hurricane season.

I know that many who had travel insurance during the hurricanes were very glad they did.
The insurance is a gamble and you have to judge what you are willing to risk and do, and what it covers.
Personally I would not let my plans change because of it being hurricane season. Just know that anything can happen. There may be weather related issues with ANY vacation at any time of the year.
Just be prepared and plan what you can.
October can be very warm. Or it may be on the cool side. The weather could be slightly cool (not cold) or HOT. Mostly it will be very comfortable. :)

We have been in Orlando twice during Hurricane season. we experienced some high winds as the hurricane (Andrew) hit south florida. The next time was in late September the hurricane hit in the Tampa area and we got very high winds and alot of rain. The parks were closed early but opened around noon, we went to Epcot with water shoes and ponchos and had a fun time in an empty park.
We too will be at WDW Sept 30-Oct 6, we have made all our ADR's for now, may end up cancelling a couple but at least we have nice places to eat.....it is not hard for us since we tend to hit the same places each trip so it was just a matter of picking the day..
We are planning on buying trip insurance before we go, just in case and hope we don't have to turn in a claim...

I've posted this many times but will post again because this question comes up a lot. Even if you don't get a direct affect in the WDW area you can get an indirect affect in other ways.

Keep in mind that the Orlando area is also an evacuation area for many Floridians living along the coast lines (east & west). Many West coast Flordians evacuated to the Orlando area before Wilma hit last year but returned after it hit (thus, empty parks)...however afterwards many of us SE coast Floridians poured up to WDW to get away from the aftermath (no running water, no electricity, no gas (luckily enough in the car to make it to WDW though) and so on). We were one of those, we almost felt like we were at home because we ran into so many neighbors and friends in WDW 3 hrs away LOL!

Weatherwise, it could be anything, just keep your eye on the forecast. See what's going on in the tropics and if they expect any cold fronts. Then you can pack accordingly. October is usually warm but can be the transitional month from hot to more comfortable, you never can tell.

Yes it is hurricane season. But i wouldnt worry about it. October is not typically an active month for hurricanes, peak time is aug and sept. JUst go ahead and make youur plans and dont worry. Just becasue Oct is hurricane season doesnt mean there will be a hurricane and even if there is a hurricane doesnt mean it will hit Central FL.

My sister lives in Palm Beach County last year they did have to evacuate in Oct. :umbrella: and they went up to WDW until thier electricity came back but Disney was fine.

Yes October is hurricane season. You should not let the POSSIBILITY of a hurricane determine your plans, but....

If a Hurricane is forecast to strike anywhere near, you should heed the evacuation warnings!!! Too many of our citizens here in South Mississippi did not listen (or reasoned that they lived through Hurricane Camille and chose to stay) and have absolute horror stories to show for it (if they are still with us). Please, please listen to all current forecasts.

We can rebuild, but we can't replace YOU!

In the past, I would have said that October is a relatively quiet time for hurricanes in our area of Florida (south west) but last year, we were without power from a hurricane for 7 days. We almost missed Halloween, but our power finally came on 8 p.m. the night before! That was a first for me since moving to FL in 1989! It just shows that you'll just never know. Good luck! I hope it's a quiet hurricane season for everyone! :sunny:
