Is my tv dead?

We have a Maxent plasma tv that we got about 2.5 years ago. Right before the superbowl in 2007. So....I was sitting here watching Golden Girls, and all of a sudden the picture was very dark. I tried changing channels and could barely see anything. I turned it off. I turned it back on, and could see even less. I switched to other modes and didn't get the blue screen indicating the modes were changing. I turned it back off and gave it a few minutes. This time, I had to be right up on it to see ANY color.

Is there any hope? Is repair going to cost more than a new tv, especially since this wasn't exactly a high dollar tv? (well, it was/is to us, but relatively speaking)

Don't plasma TV's use some type of light bulb?

Maybe the bulb burned out?

My late mother taught me that if I didn't have anything nice to say to say nothing at all.

:) (Kind of.)

Sorry. :(

bicker, it's ok. You can trash talk my tv. Heaven knows we have been! Basically since we bought it.

I did manage to reach the company (surprisingly still in business, despite what my emails from a year or so back indicated) and they said something about a q drive, or maybe an x drive going bad? They told me to contact the Geek Squad.

Needless to say, we're looking on Amazon now. Samsung will be our next brand, LCD instead of plasma.

Believe it or not, consumer reports liked this tv (technically a monitor) when we bought it...

I can give you some dim hope. My friend has a TV which went haywire one day (and it wasn't the cable because no other TV in the house did it.) There were rainbow rings of color on the set. In the middle, you could see green, then red, then yellow, and normal around the edges. The next day, when it was turned on it was fine. We never found out what happened but it fixed itself. That said, after reading the Maxent information I would say your TV is most likely dead.
