Is moderate worth the price difference over value?

We are a family of 6 our first trip we stayed at All Star Music, we got 2 connecting rooms. This last trip we stayed at Corando Springs 2 connecting rooms. We did not think it was worth the $700 upgrade. The pool was nice, but the slide at the pool closed at 7:30 which was one of the main reasons we booked a mod. The bar at the pool also closed at 6, so if the kids wanted a drink/snack or we wanted an adult drink we had to take a very long walk to get something. The outside movie screen was more than 1/2 smaller than the one at All Star Music and I believe the bar was open much later too.

I believe it is worth it. The only real way to know if it's worth it for you, is to try it.

Mods also have the coffeepot and fridge. We use both, as we eat breakfast in our room to save time and dining credits. SO these are big considerations for us.

We have stayed in all the All Stars and every mod except POFQ. The All Stars are cute to my kids; I do not love the oversized icons. I like the more sophisticated, but still fun, theming of the mods. Also, we find the values to have either thinner walls or louder patrons... Not sure which but we always end up hearing our neighbors moving around, talking, etc.

So for us, it is worth it. However, when we throw together a quick trip and hit the values I am very very happy to be there!!

We could afford the mods but choose to go more often and stay in a value. It is often $70 a day to upgrade and sometimes that is all we pay with a passholder rate at the values. I know some who go once a year or every few years and do it big--we vacation 3-4 weeks a year and and are able to stay on Disney property inexpensively.
We are in DVC and appreciate the upgraded amenities but often feel they are wasted when we are not in the room more than to sleep and shower. I love having it, but am happy at the values too.

We have stayed at all levels. BC, Contemporary, ASM suites, POR, and CBR. I had been trying to stay at CBR for about 6 yrs. It never worked out for some reason or another. Finally got my chance about 4 years ago. Will stay no where else. This last time we were in a preferred room, and now will always stay in a preferred room. But I am 60, and do not want to put on the extra miles any more, other wise it would not matter. Love the theme of this resort. Love the main pool with the grandkids, and the quiet pool when it is just us. Love the umbrella covered court yards. Nice food court and bar area. Great gift shop and store. Bus stops are close to each building. My granddaughter loved the beach. Love the hammocks with a good book. It is a large resort, so there are times when walking around, you do not run into no one. I do a class on Disney for our Community Ed. I have planned several trips for people and always recommend CBR. Never had a complaint. The values are fine, but just the extra touches, like benches at the bus stops, pool slides, extra towels, playgrounds, all add to the vacation. I often think, maybe we should try another deluxe, but just can not spend that kind of money for a bed. If you have a couple of kids who will not sleep together, bring a blow-up bed. We did this a couple of years ago, and it worked out great. Good luck in your planning.:cool1:

We just returned from 7 days at CBR. Never again! I totally prefer POP with kids. We upgraded as it was summer & we were going to use the pools....we did once. No elevators, don't ride buses so don't care about sitting/standing/covered/not there. Big thing for me was diversity & choice in food court with DS2. The food court is MUCH more conveniently located at POP. We have NEVER paid for a preferred room, but have never been so far from food court as we were at CBR. Rooms were not that much bigger for me & extra floor space where I normally put pack and play in value room, had a useless bench in CBR just taking up space.
I will never again spend extra for moderate over pop century, however, I am planning on banking the difference & splurging on BC again sometime in the future. Until then, it's pop or movies, unless they unleash a fabulous deal!

Also, at any value resort, we just leave a note for mousekeeping for extra towels once & they will usually remember daily to leave extra.

Not automatically. You have to call and ask for extras.

I stayed at AoA and loved the 565 square feet of space for our family of 5. The best part was having a real bedroom for my husband and I that was separate from the kids.

The towel situation was not a problem at all. We'd call mousekeeping as we were leaving the room to ask for more towels right before we left for the pool. Each and every time there were fresh towels waiting for us in the room when we got back.

The extra cost of a moderate over a value is not worth it to me.

In January my best friend and I upgraded to a moderate for our short trip to get the free dining plan. We stayed at Port Orleans: French Quarter. While the resort was nice, the theme was far less "Disney" than Pop Century, the value we've stayed at before. I personally prefer Pop Century because it's bright and colourful. I find two of the moderates I've stayed in, Carribean Beach and POFQ, to be rather dull and drab. Coronado Springs was a well themed resort with a great food court.

Personally I wouldn't spend the extra money on a moderate.

My husband and I prefer moderates and specifically ones that have queen beds, which means CBR is out. We stay in hotels fairly often and there is just not enough space in a double bed and we are not big people. We also find that value resorts tend to be more crowded and attract a lot of teenage groups for various sports and music competitions. I work with teenagers all day, I'd prefer to spend less time around them while on vacation. I also agree with the reasons given by previous posters. But it's all about what you consider to be of value to you. :)
