Is meet talking mickey "bad" use of a FP?

If it is what you want to do, it's not a "bad use" of your FP. We've had good luck - we've gone to meet talking Mickey twice and both times he was talking. I'm 34 years old and I've been meeting Mickey my whole life. It totally blows my mind. :)

We FP'd Mickey in our labor day trip. My DS3 wanted to meet him every day. If it's a must-do it's not a bad FP.

the thing about Mickey is he's way out of the way. So if you head over to see him and it's 45 minutes you will end up waiting because it takes so long to get there and back to a "land" you won't want to waste time skipping Mickey, going to ride Pirates and trying Mickey later. It's not like Pooh where you can walk by and check the wait time and easily do another ride if the wait is too long.

We did a FP for him on Oct 1st, the wait was posted at 55 minutes so we did not regret it. He talked to us about our anniversary, a little creepy but fun!

I was at WDW the first week of Septmeber. We did rope drop at a different park and then headed to MK for dinner at BOG and the nighttime stuff. We did Talking Mickey when we got to the park at 4. Wait was an hour! I was my favorite meet and greet and my 8 yr old loved it.

I would say it's a must do. I would plan to do it with a FP on your way out for your break. After you've used that FP stop and get a 4th if you want for your return.

I would never question the FP rankings Mess put together. But if you want to meet him, it seems like a pretty decent use of a FP to me. Other than right at rope drop or at closing you are unlikely to encounter a wait less than 20 minutes. You also have to walk well out of your way to do it, so scheduling a FP when you are either arriving or leaving would make it convenient knowing you will have a short wait. But if you plan to do all the mountains, 7dmt, pirates, jungle cruise, and haunted mansion, and some of them more than once, I would think you'd want to use it on those instead.

It's all good. Obviously a person's preferences weigh heavily on "best" use of FP, mine is only an attempt at an objective list of FP priorities geared towards saving time with all other considerations (such as preferences) removed.

We met him at rope drop in August with a very short wait. (Just checked the time stamp on my photos and we were inside meeting him at 9:09am.) I would use FP+ on Splash & BTMRR and meet Mickey at rope drop if you can. Also that way if he doesn't end up talking, you won't have wasted a FP+ or much time waiting.

Nope, its not a waste of a FP. I went during off-season and there was 2 hour wait in the standby line for the talking Mickey, and FP brought that down to a 10 minute wait. Plus it was a heck of a surprise for my husband, who didn't even know there was a talking Mickey character, as I didn't tell him about it. I just told him we were seeing Mickey Mouse at a character meet and greet, and getting our pictures taken, because that's what you do on a Disneyworld vacation. Book it and surprise your friends and family (who will thank you for not having to stand hours in line)!

I think it is an awesome use of a fastpass. One of the best uses in the park. His lines were up to 60 minutes in September.

We have used a FP for him 3 times this year. My kids and my husband love him. He talked all 3 times for us. Card trick, flying activity, and Mickey Mouse clubhouse dance. We are 3 for 3, so I guess we beat the odds.
