Is maxpass still worth it for photopass?

I’ve heard that photopass photographers are dwindling. Do you feel maxpass is still worth it for the photopass benefit only if only 1 person gets it?

Also, which do you feel would be more beneficial, maxpass for 2 adults or rider swap?

Not in my opinion.

Rider swap is free. They can be used together. You take your maxpass to The FP line and they get a scanned rider swap. Then they enter through the fast pass line again.

It depends how intentional you are about taking Photopass pictures. If you're going to wait for some iconic photos in front of the castle, have a few ride photos, wait for Mickey when he has a photographer... sure, I'd pay $10 for those pictures.

In your case, it sounds like you won't be getting any family ride photos, so it depends if you see yourself waiting in line for a photographer at a "major" location, or if you're willing stop when you see photographers randomly around the park and grab some fun photos in different locations. Most characters don't have Photopass photographers anymore - Mickey in Town Square often does (but not always), and the Marvel characters usually do (but not always), but most of the indoor location ones are gone, and most outdoor characters have never had one.

I'd probably buy Maxpass on one ticket, use it to book FPs (which you can then rider swap off of), and also get your downloads.

There was one day that the kids wanted to do characters, so we got some excellent photos taken with star wats characters, tinkerbell, a couple of others, then we went on some picture rides, and it was definitely woorth $10...

It's as close to a bargain as you'll find at any Disney park these days. But you need to make a point of stopping when you see them out.

Would you want more than, like, one picture a day? If so, it's "worth it."

I just came back from four days using MaxPass, one of the days only I had it and it was for photos only. I got SO MANY cute shots!!! I loved it. Yeah, we kind of had to seek them out but we also did characters, did "classic" shots like in front of the castle, and now I have many cute pictures :)

There aren't many photopass photographers in the parks, but the ones that are there will basically give you a personal photo shoot with several poses, angles, and magic shots thrown in here and there. So, potentially, you can end up with a LOT of great photos if you seek out all the Photopass people in the parks.

Any tips for seeking out the photographers? Or just be eagle eyed? We're away mid October and mostly weekdays so I'm guessing they might be thinner on the ground then anyway. Any advice much appreciated.

OMG YES! I did some a couple weeks ago with my friends. We did so many poses and angles. It was great!

You just have to pay attention, because they do roam around. I noticed this summer I saw a lot around early in the day before the heat kicked in.
In DL I consistently saw them at:
-Castle (middle and right side by the well)
-Mickey and Walt statue at hub
Sword and stone by carousel
-Teacup and Monstro the whale (they hop back and forth with these)
In DCA I consistently saw them at:
-Mickey and Walt statue (partner statue?)
-Waterfall before the wine tasting terrace
-Carsland entrance
-Street going down Carsland
-Pixar pier (they move a lot; usually on the walkway, or at the rails at the beginning)
-Backdrop near Guardians (with the clouds)

Hope this helps. I haven’t been in nearly a month so they may be different now.

That's great, thank you =]

Definitely keep your eyes out. Earlier this month they weren’t in their usual spots. Plus it was crazy hot so it seemed like a lot of them were trying to hide in shady areas off to the side and not as noticeable. If you want any magic shots they can tell you what they have and what else is available and if you want a certain one where to look for it.

I think it’s worth it but I also think MP is a must to avoid the long waits.

Thanks everyone! Appreciate it!

Am I understanding it wrong that we can get ONE maxpass and rider swap off the one? Or do we each need maxpass?

Currently, yes. The first person uses a FP and asks for a rider swap, which then gets scanned onto the second party’s ticket.

WDW has been changing this and requiring a FP in order to get a rider swap, so there’s a chance DL will follow suit, but it hasn’t happened yet.

Wow that's pretty awesome! Thanks!
