We are going (well trip dates are still up in the air but) october or december. Is Lotso there now? and how long will he stay if he is?

Thanks

He was there today. My kids and I got out autographs, pics and hugs just before lunch.

Was there last week
But I do remember hearing rumors here that he will be leaving

Ok thanks! Bummer, but I knew I heard about him being there a while back and figured if he still was he's be leaving soon :sad2:

Yep, it's no rumor - Lotso will be leaving in April, certainly by May 1st. WDW does changes to the character rotation twice per year - once in the spring, once in the fall. Lotso will be replaced by Pooh and friends (no idea why they have decided on yet another Pooh meet and greet, except perhaps for the new movie).

Lotso's fate hasn't been officially released, but odds are that he'll either be retired comepletly, or at best, become a special event character (he'd be a good fit for the Not so Scary Halloween Party). It's very unlikely that Lotso will continue to do any sort of regular meet and greet activities.

There actually is a plan in which Lotso has his own M&G location at DHS, near TSMM. No word on whether that will come to fruition.

In the meantime, though, he'll still be in the Pixar Pals parade, so he'll be seen (and, presumably, smelled), if not available to be met.

That would be great. I often think they make and release these awesome characters at the animation building and then they are never seen again. Dug and Russell and Carl from up were great characters and I havn't seen them since. Same goes for remy and wall-e!

The Pixar characters are a different thing ... even though Disney owns Pixar, part of that deal is that Pixar has total control of how its characters are used, for how long, and in what types of formats. And sometimes Pixar does say "no", based on where and how the character is presented. They don't want anything that will dilute the story.

Buzz, for example, used to just be on the balcony of Tomorrowland, near his ride. In that location, Pixar would not allow Disney to set up Photopass because the background (regular old Tomorrowland facade) was not appropriate. Once Disney re-designed and built a background appropriate to the story of Buzz, the Photopass was allowed to utilize that area.

Right, but the M&G for Lotso is a rumor only. Judging from past residents of the Animation Building that have come and gone, I would not hold out realistic hope that mister smells of strawberries will be around for anything but the parade.

Do note that I hope that I'm wrong! I love to see variety in meetable characters.

Ok, that makes sense. They definantly need a place for The UP characters they were just too good.

Is this a DEFINITE? By May 1? I was hoping he would be there till at least May 2:

Any idea which Pooh character/s will replace Lotso? We were lucky to see him last August and get photos/autographs.

Oooh, I need to go see him before he leaves, I love that pink, strawberry-scented bear!!!! I just bought one in the store at HS last week, and he sleeps in my bed with me. :lovestruc He smells yummy!
