Is Liquid Children's Tylenol 4oz OK to pack in carryon?

I'm bringing liquid children's tylenol in my carryon. Do I have to pour the children's tylenol into a 3oz travel bottle or can I bring the liquid children's tylenol in the 4oz bottle because it is medicine? I'm all confused on this one! Please help. Thanks.

No, you will have to pour it into the 3 oz. container or you will have to dump it at the airport. Just found this out back in March.

Yes, it's fine. Both OTC and prescription medicine are exempt from the 3-1-1 rule. You should not put it in the 3-1-1 zip lock but you do need to take it out of your carryon and declare it to the agent

I usually have one 3-1-1 bag with my 3oz liquids and another with liquid medicines in the original containers.

This is a TSA rule not airline specific, from the TSA website:

"Additionally, we are continuing to permit prescription liquid medications and other liquids needed by persons with disabilities and medical conditions.

However, if the liquid medications are in volumes larger than 3 ozs each, they may not be placed in the quart-size bag and must be declared to the Transportation Security Officer. A declaration can be made verbally, in writing, or by a person's companion, caregiver, interpreter, or family member."

Actually, this is incorrect, as the next poster noted. Medicines are exempt from the 3-1-1 rule. If you had it in your 3-1-1 bag and it was over 100ml then yes, you may have encountered problems, as you did not follow the rules listed above.

So sorry I didn't follow the "rules". When I book an airline ticket I expect to receive good information from an airline ageant. Apparently, you cannot rely on anyone for anthing anymore without checking it out yourself.

The airlines don't make the rules, TSA does. And yes, it is prudent for travellers to learn and update themselves on the rules because then can and do change periodically.

I don't suggest relying on anyone for the information other than the actual websites, which is why many of us quote websites and provide links. That's better than relying on strangers on a message board. While people try and help, information changes, and it is best to always go straight to the source for things like this. That's why TJ quoted the TSA site.

True, true. Usually I do check out tsa or gov. websites with traveling overseas so much. I guess I dropped the ball on this one. Lesson learned.

Not sure why rules is in quotes, but I agree that depending on airline agents for advice about rules that they have no control over (i.e. non-airline rules) is dangerous. It would be nice if they could tell you everything you need to know but...

Especially if you are flying in multiple countries with multiple sets of rules, you really need to check out the various websites to find out what you can (and cannot do).

The same goes for asking questions here - we're a great resource for advice, but the security officer/desk agent/whatever isn't going to care that crashbb on DIS told you that it was okay (no matter how important I think myself). The airline websites (or TSA, car rental, etc websites) should be the first place people look.

I told the CATSA agent a few weeks ago in YYZ that crashbb of the DIS promised me that I would be fine bringing through my litre bottle of water through security and they said 'oh, well in that case, DO come on through with your water!'
