Is LeCellier over-rated ?

We have eaten at LeCellier for lunch back in 2007.
Very nice food.

But we have now read it is one of the hardest ADR's to get.

Is it because people on the meal plans get their highest prices meal for a TS credit for lunch ?

Has the food been improved in the last 3 years ?

Any idea's ?

I actually got in for the first time 2 years back. The Ressies ARE the hardest to get.

I just wanted to go... once... just to say I went. I am very critical when it comes to food; Nothing could be worth all that aggravation.

Unfortunately, I LOVED the mushroom filet.

I mean LOVED it. So much so that now I am one of those idiots who is constantly trying to get in.

I REALLY wanted to hate it. I honestly did.

Ah well...

I ate at Le Cellier for my DH on our trip in 2009. He is a big steak guy and I am not. I enjoy food, steakhouse’s just aren’t my favorite. I had the mushroom filet and it was delicious. That is really saying something since it’s not usually something I go for. My DH was very impressed also, and we spent the rest of our trip trying to get in again. We are going again this summer and have made three lunch reservations there. I could have been okay with two but did three for DH.

Count me in as one of the people that have come to love it. We ate there the last time we were there and I too fell in love with the mushroom filet. I love a good filet and I have to say that this was probably the best I've had. Some people have given so-so reviews of Le Cellier but I had a wonderful experience - we were seated right away, our server was fantastic, the food was amazing. So this time I wanted to make sure I got a ressie and woke up on day 180 to make it. And I did! I'm sure lots of people will say that it's overrated but I didn't think so. That said, we are doing the 1 TS credit lunch instead of the 2 TS credit dinner because even the lunch is a lot of food!

I'm probably the only person on DIS who doesn't really like it. I've been there twice, and though I liked the pretzel breadsticks (and not the others at all) and the cheese soup for my appy, I didn't like anything else much at all. And I'm not a picky person, I just didn't enjoy the meal enough to see what all the hype was about, there were many other places I enjoyed more.:confused3 Now that I've decided to live a vegetarian lifestyle, the cheese soup is off my menu, so I have no desire for a return visit. Funny thing is, I feel guilty for not enjoying it, when so many, including some very dear travel companions, do. So I wont be one of those getting in the way of your ADR attempts.:rotfl2:

I didn't like Le Cellier until the dinner menu received an upgrade. Now there's plenty on the menu that I enjoy. And because of the backlash over the price/credit increase (since many people will order the same items anyway), reservations should be easier to get from now on.

So I'll say lunch is overrated and dinner is underrated. I also think Brown Derby is underrated, but then again, I'm not concerned about the value of my dining credits since I pay OOP. :)

family of four - all like different things - all loved Le Cellier. Between us had cheese soup/mussels/ceasar salad all fantastic, mushroom filet and strip steak - amazing, kid's meal went down well although she had adults dessert. Creme brulee and seasonal ice-cream got thumbs up - the only thumbs down was for the chocolate mousse which is very bitter imho.

Le Cellier used to be one my family and I's favorite restaurants in Disney and it was always high on our list of reservations every year, but last year seems to have finally been the tipping point for us.

2008 was the high point for us, the food was great, the service was great and it firmly placed itself atop our list.

2009 the food was still great, the service slipped a little but we did have a new waitress so it wasn't really her fault. I got a drink spilled down the back of my shirt, but hey, I got a free Canada shirt out of the deal.

Then 2010 was a complete free fall. We waited over an hour after our reservation time, the waitstaff seemed pre-occupied to the point that we had to track down a server just to get drinks and breadsticks, another 20 minutes after we sat down, the management was outright rude and to top it all off the food was a complete disappointment.

It really pained me to see the drop off since this was always so high on our list, but between the poor service and the poor food its just not on the list. I was shocked to hear it was raising itself to a "Signature Dining Experience". I think they've coasted on the years of positive reviews and now it'll take a real push back before things get back to previous levels of service. :confused3

We were able to get reservations there for lunch the end of Feb. It was wonderful:thumbsup2 The service was great, the food was top notch.
We spent the last 3 years trying over and over for reservations, and it was well worth the wait.
DD & I loved the chedder cheese soup, DW had the tomato stack which was tasty too. We shared the NY Steak and the prime rib sandwich which both were fantastic.
Our lunch was just right, we didnt feel rushed, and had a nice conversation
with our server over desert too.

Well you were lucky and I'm really glad you had a good experience. Mine was just the opposite-but like the song says "I'm giving them one more last chance" in October-if I can get an ADR! LOL
UPDATE: My day 180 out was Friday and I DID get an ADR for lunch. So we'll see how it goes!!

I got a reservation for Le Cellier for April 22nd when I called last week. No problems. Mind you, it was for dinner and a little later in the evening so maybe that had something to do with it as well.

I do agree- Brown Derby is highly UNDERrated. My DH and I had the F! Package at the 3:30 time and we loved it. We loved that they had a specific menu from which to choose for the F! Package (should do that for all TS restaurant DPs IMHO), the food was actually quite fresh with large portions, the food was cooked exactly right, and the server was not only efficient & personable, but the fact that he was dreamy cute made it even better for me.

This will be my FIRST experience at Le Cellier. I think I am getting the Le Cellier Experience, or whatever it's called. My DH doesn't like mushrooms so I don't have any clue what he might want. UNIBROUE is definitely on my list with a following of the Icewine.

As with anywhere, you will get mixed reviews, but I do love Le Cellier. After not being able to get a reservation for our October 2010 trip, we showed up at opening for dinner (4:30 or so) and got a WALK UP!! I almost cried it was so good. Cheese soup, pretzel bread, and the mushroom filet. All my favorites!! Our server was phenomenal, too.

I will concede, though, that my husband doesn't love it. He feels it's too dark and that they over season their meat. I do understand that feedback, but it's still one of my favorites.

I absolutely agree that dinner reservations should be easier to get in light of the move to "signature". I don't use the dining plan, so it doesn't matter to me, but many people (especially those making ADRs well in advance) do, so I'm sure it will be easier to get in there for dinner. (Though lunch will probably be tougher....)

Le Cellier blows, to be blunt. LOL!! :lmao: Its HUGELY MASSIVELY over-rated!!! I agree with "TinkerbelleMom". I dont get what the hype is about. My steak was fatty & tasteless. The cheese soup was meh...i've had better soup at my local subway shop & tim hortons to be honest. Pretzle bread was alright i suppose, but not enough to make me rave about it. I really dont get the hype? I've had MUCH better steak at teppan edo!!! And they fried it!!! My son (10) didnt like his burger...he took a few bites. And he's the king of burgers!! Lol! I honestly wont go back. Ever!

IMO its not worth it. We just came back from our trip and went to LeC. Both DH and I agreed...SODIUM OVERLOAD. And I LOVE salt here. The mushroom filet was good...but it was just soooo salty it was ridiculous. The pretzel bread is good...the cheese soup I didn't really care for to tell you the truth. IDK...after eating at some of the signatures I would much rather to them for a good steak. I just didn't get it. It was LOUD and busy...and sooo didn't have that signature feel. No way did it compare to Cali Grill, Citricos, Narcoossee's, etc. We may go again but not our next visit. there are just way too many places to go to around the world for much better food!

Exactly! I agree! There are soooo many better places to go than LeC. Im still trying to figure out the hype??? Steak & cheese soup is what ppl rave about most (and the bread), i've had all 3 and I can honestly say i wont be returning! Been there done that, time to move on. I think the hype is because this is the only steakhouse that (use to be) 1 TS credit??? Im thinking this could be the reason for the hype. now that dinner is 2 TS credits, maybe there wont be anymore hype? :lmao:
I dunno.

I think you either love it or you hate it. My family loves it, and so do many others we know. We are very excited about our ADR in August. However, we have heard MANY negative reviews of the place. I say try it for yourself and see. :)

I feel that it is very much over-rated! The last time I was there I got the filet and it was nothing special. I like food to have flavor and I found the food to be bland. I do not understand what all the hype is about.:confused3

We are a group of jaded foodies and we loved it in January. No one talks about their hamburgers much but I thought it was the best hamburger I ever had! It even made me regret eating the cheese soup and pretzel bread because I wish I had more room to finish that burger...I wish I had one right now...
