Hi everyone! I used to come on the Dis about 3 years ago, but in that time I had a baby and have not been to WDW since 2003. My husband and I ahve been five times to our favorite place on earth but never with a 18 month old. We were going to go our usual month of September. But my mom wants to go and she is terminally ill and we don't know if she will still be with us in September.

She would like to see her granddaughter at Disney - so we have decided we should maybe go in June. Is it terribly crowded? and will it be to hot for mom? Any tips you can give us would be appreciated!!
Thanks

I'm sorry about your mother. My mother passed in 2003 from cancer so I know what you're going through. Anyway, June may be too hot for her. I've been in June a couple times and we were all sweaty just waiting for the parks to open. If you do it, I would recommend a short trip staying at one of the monorail resorts (since you'll prolly spend most of your time at MK) so you can get mom or baby "home" quickly if you see either of them wilting. Just take the parks in short spurts and spend lots of time in the pool or room. I also recommend either a wheelchair or ECV for your mother. Best of luck to you.

We were there in late June 2002, and it was hot, but not unbearable. There are lots of places to get out of the heat. I agree that if you're staying on site, stay somewhere close if it's in your budget. We lost my mother-in-law in 2003, and there are many things we wish we could have done with her. I say, go, and enjoy yourselves and enjoy this special time with Mom.

It is hot, but don't let that stop you from taking this trip with your family...especially with your mom.

I would definitely get a wheelchair and some of those misting fans...they really help! Just take it slow and leisurely and let your mom enjoy watching her daughter at WDW!

ps - eat lots of ice cream...it helps :)

My mom is going to be in the middle of her chemo treatment while were there and she had no objections to going again in June(we`ve been in June several times before). It will be hot :sunny: and humid, but not too unbearable. The frequent rain showers help to cool it down significantly!! Just make sure she stays hydrated with plenty of water and that your not obssesively "go go go" and have to do everything in 1 day and she will be fine. Have fun :thumbsup2 !

The first time I took my DH was in the middle of June, they had record rainfall that week....:( But he loved it anyway! We are going again in June. I say go for it!! Spend time with your mom!

If you haven't already, check out the disABILITIES FAQs thread near the top of the disABILITIES Board. There are some hints about touring and also information about where to rent a whelchair or ECV.

We've had 2 trips in June. Two things that occur more in June than other trips we've taken-lot's of rain and more people. But it's definitely do-able. Not sure if you've read this tip before but when it's warm I like to carry around a damp washcloth in a ziplock to cool down with. It really helps.

I hope you decide to do it and your mom has a great time! When my mom was undergoing her chemo she told her Dr. that once she was better she was "going to Disney World" He thought she was kidding but we went Dec. 2003 and she did great! In fact, if you ask her it was one of her best trips-she didn't have to worry about her hair-her wig looked great all day! :cool1: We've also gone now in Sept 04, Jan. 05, Sept. 05 , Jan. 06 (both my sisters and my niece went that time), and next time Sept. 06. My mom has been on every trip. :cloud9: I don't know if it was her bout with breast cancer that did it, or not, but even though she still works hard, she now takes more time for travel with her daughters.

Go and have a great time. :grouphug:

I would certainlly go! All the above advise is good and I'd add one more thing... plan to tour the parks early in the day and late in the afternoon/evening. We usually get to the parks at opening and about 10:30-11am we head back to the room for lunch, rest and a nap. Then, about 4 or 6pm we head back to the parks and enjoy the rest of the evening in the parks. We avoid the bulk of the crowds, and we avoid the heat. There is no need to "comando" vacation particularly when you have someone who needs to be careful. We also have the "weak link" policy. The moment anyone wants to head back to the room (we have 3 children) my DW or I head back to the room with them.
We have found the the very best vacations at WDW we've had (this trip in 3 days will be my 31st) have been the ones where we just took it easy and let the fun "come to us" instead of feeling like we had to chace the "fun" all over Disney property.
Cherish this trip if you go... what wonderful memories all of you can make!

If you're worried that she may not make it, In my opinion, you should just GO!!! I'd get a w/c or scooter, make sure she keeps her nutrition up, be sure she uses sunscreen/hats/umbrella/and light colored clothes to protect from the heat/sun as much as possible and MOST IMPORTANTLY be sure she stays well hydrated!!!! Actually, that would go for everyone in the family but especially her..... AND don't forget not to neglect yourself if you'll be the primary caretaker of everyone....

It will be hot, BUT we went last September (smack in the middle of the month) and it was HOT! If it's the weather holding you back - you never can tell. And as a number of others mentioned, there are so many lines and attractions indoors.
Have fun !!!!
Take lots of pictures.
