Is Jewelry safe in your room safe?

Hi all!

I got engaged this week and am, of course, over the moon about it! Just tonight, I thought to myself - what am I going to do with my ring while I'm at Typhoon Lagoon and the resort pool every day during our trip next month? Do you trust your important jewelry in the room safe? (Staying on-site). I feel like it's a bad idea to wear it. I would love advice.

TIA!

I always wore my rings, even in the pool. Many hotels have a safe at the front desk to check valuables. At which resort are you staying?
Beach Club. I would just hate for it to slip off and land in the sand bottom of the pool/down somewhere in the lazy river.

I put jewellery in the room safe and have never had a problem, but I don't travel with 'important' or very valuable jewellery. I even leave my wedding ring safely at home and use a plain gold band DH gave me for the purpose of travel. That said, nothing has gone MIA from the safe, so I guess that it should be fine. There may be safety deposit boxes at the front desk that would be more secure if the ring is very valuable.

If you don't feel comfortable wearing it, leave it in a safe at home. A box at the bank, for example.

Saying that, I've left our wallets, watches, and other valuables in the safes on all of our visits. We haven't had any problems.

Congratulations!

It's a good not to wear gold in a pool. Chlorine is corrosive to the metal. I don't think Disney uses chlorine to sanitize its pool water, but still, it's a good habit to take off your diamond and gold ring before swimming or showering.

DO NOT wear them swimming. Most people who lose rings do so while swimming.

First, congratulations! :)

I've left various things in the safes in our resorts (all levels) through the years (passports, jewelry, cash, etc.) and have never had a problem.

The reason I'm posting, however, is to suggest getting a separate jewelry policy (if your homeowner's policy doesn't cover things like loss, theft, etc.). The annual price is quite reasonable, given the peace of mind that it brings. Of course, sentimental value can't be replaced, but at least you won't need to worry about the financial loss.

Congratulations!

I have worn my gold wedding band for 48 years this Fall. For nearly 30 years we have had a chlorine based swimming pool. It has in no way corroded my gold wedding band. I had surgery last year and I had to have my gold wedding band cut off preop. It had never been taken off my finger.

I leave my computer, cash and CCs in my room safe and have never had a problem, word of caution even though many of us have never had a problem, there has been the occasional maid with sticky fingers. When my son and his ex-wife got engaged, she found a ring similar to hers in crystal and wore it instead. I wear my wedding band, which is gold and normally gold earrings to the pools and have never had a problem with them turning color or slipping off. I don't travel with expensive jewelry though, I don't take/wear anything I can't afford to loose.

I've had a ring break and painfully pinch the finger it was on. My dad had to use pliers to pull it apart so I could get it off.

Gold itself is not corroded by chlorine, but the alloys used in gold jewelry can be.

Your ring may have a higher concentration of gold than the one that broke on me and/or the alloys used in your ring may be ones that are not easily corroded.

But since most people don't wear 24 karat gold and they don't know which alloys are in their jewelry, better to err on the side of caution and keep your jewelry out of water. :)
