:confused3 We are UO first-timers and were really looking forward to the Jaws ride - did I hear right that it is only open during peak times? If so, why is that? I thought Jaws was a big deal at Universal -

Jaws is only open seasonally. There are probably several reasons for this:
- It is now one of the oldest attractions at UO.
- It is expensive to operate due to fuel costs and high labor needs.
- The parks are very empty at certain times, such as right now. Last year, I never saw a wait at Jaws and many boats were going out only half full in January.

There are tons of other attractions. Don't let this one being closed ruin your first visit.

It should be open again for Spring Break, right about the beginning of March. The cost is a big deal for it, especially with gas prices the way they are. It has a lot of pyrotechnics, and is not the only ride that suffers from it. Other rides such as mummy and spiderman, dont use their fire effects during certain parts of the year. There is a small rumor going around that it will close for good sometime soon, but that is a rumor, only a rumor.

Can you expand on this a little? I remember just briefly fire being used in Spiderman, and I've only been on Mummy once, so I remember very little at all.

We're going in February - would you guess that the reduction in the effects is "maybe", "probably", or "pretty definite"?

Thanks for your take here. I'm a lot more familiar with the inner workings of Disney than with Universal.

Without the fire and water effects, Spiderman wouldn't be nearly as effective!
Back to Jaws... it would cost a small fortune, but I wish they would renovate the ride to have a short underwater clear tube (like at Seaworld) that you went through and you could see an actual great white shark swimming around you!!! Maybe they could also have props set up underwater to represent the shark previous "victims" :)

i like that idea, but that alone will cost a lot, but it's better then using their money on the gas/fire part on the ride. on the ROTM if they stop that little fire part you won't be able to see the King Kong Statue. If they were to renovate JAWS it would take a long time, but if they do that then why not go ahead and take down a ride like Twister which i thought was a waste of money, and replace that with the old Ghostbusters show  !!!
