Is it worth the trouble to rent < 30 points?

We had a baby this year (yeah!) but it meant skipping Disney after a twice a year run. We gave some points to friends but it left us with less than 30 that expire in December 2012 and can't be banked. While I would hate to just let them go, is it worth it to rent so few points? We have never rented our points before and I'm not sure it will be worth the hassle.

You might have better luck advertising a transfer of points. Someone may need a few points to complete a reservation. Once the transfer is done, you don't have to do anything.

Do you recommend a broker for that or is it just as easy to work directly with someone?

There are people that need just a night out two. I rented out something like 32 or 35 points once very easily. If the points can't be banked I'd guess they have been already so you couldn't transfer and would have to rent. If you are willing you can supplement a few more points if need for a rental by borrowing but I'd get payment first if taking that risk.

If they are banked points, you can't transfer them.

I am sure that if you advertise at a low enough price (say 8-10$ per point), you'll find clients very fast.

I usually go for two nights and rent the points from DVC owners. And most of the times its less than 30 points. Post them on the Rent/Trade section, and I will reply. :cool1:

it would be very easy to rent out that many points. Some rooms are as low as 9point per night. That's 3 nights worth of points. With online booking, it's super easy to check availability and book rooms.

As someone who has purchased transfer points a few times and rented once, it was worth it to me to be able to complete a reservation for the length of stay I wanted. And it was worth it to the owner to receive $$$ without having to exert much energy at all!

$300 +/-to me is worth it! The actual worth to you, only you can determine!

I'm so glad I posted this. I worked with somebody to rent our points and it was very easy. I hated the idea of just letting them go to waste. The majority of the points are going to good friends of ours and we've asked them to take lots of pictures so maybe we can share in their fun when they get back. Thanks all!

Fantastic. Doesn't get any better than that! Well worth it!
