Is it worth the jet lag?

We've been considering a trip to Disneyland Paris as an alternative to a WDW vacation, someday. We live on the east coast, near an airport with a lot of international flights, so it wouldn't be that much harder to get there for us, than it is to get to Florida.

But I've noticed a lot of Brits have some sideways negative comments about DLP, and I've heard some real down opinions on it from Americans, too (dirty, hostile cast members, overcrowded).

Then, I've seen trip reports where people say they loved it. There seems to be some theming that is above and beyond WDW, that would be nice to see, and we are a little smitten with the idea of staying at a hotel that you can exit from right onto Main St.

Should we bother? Is it worth the jet lag?

Yes.

I love DLRP and try where possible to not make a direct comparison to WDW at all.

If you do take the plunge please be aware that is s very European and some stuff will not be up to the same standards as Americans expect. The staff can be and often have been (at least to myself) courteous and formal to the point of rude and offhand and I understand the hotels are not as well equipped with extra's as they are in the States and unless you plan your holiday right you could hit massive crowds which are less easily handled than at WDW due to the size of the parks.

Having said that please visit. The Disneyland park in smaller and far more charming than any WDW park and altough easily compared to MK it is different. As you said there is the Disneyland Hotel a 5 min walk from Main St and several more just a further 10mins. Also Disney Village ( a smaller scaled down version of DD ) is 7-8 mins walk from The Disneyland park entrance.

Also in between Disney Village and Disneyland there is a train station with a direct service into Paris in around 25mins.

I've just come back from DLP, and I've heard enough of these comments to sometimes wonder if I was kidding myself that it's a great place!! But, although our visit was so short that I didn't have a chance to scrutinise things in detail, everything looked darned good to me. As for the CMs, the majority were very pleasant and helpful. There may have been one or two who were a little quiet, but in all of my visits to DLP I've never encountered a hostile CM!

Overcrowding is easily avoidable, if you're able to pick your times, and can avoid school holidays, and even better if you can visit during the week.

I recommend a visit - it's a wonderful place, and the Disneyland Park is absolutely charming.

We are from NJ, and we loved Disneyland Paris. We flew non-stop from Newark to CDG. We took the airport bus to DLP. We stayed at Hotel New York for 3 nights. You can't compare the parks. We were amazed at the architecture. The DL Hotel is beautiful We had a very nice trip. We took the Eurostar fast speed train from the DLP train station back to London and then continued our trip. We are two adults (59+) and had a great time.

I am so glad that you said that as I have been thinking the same thing that I may be kidding myself, even though I myself have never encounterd anything negatative at DLP.

I think DLP is wonderfull and to stay at the DLH is amazing, just to walk out the hotel and be minutes from the park.

Hi

I notice under your name at the side it says "Future Orlando resident"

Well - there's your answer. Go to visit DLRP as you'll soon have WDW on your doorstep and then the jet lag probably wouldn't be worth it.

There are people on the boards who have visited all the parks and say each one offers something different.

If you can visit at christmas you'd get the added benefit of the genuine feeling of wrapping up warm and seeing the lights in the dark from 4.00pm onwards. You could never get this in Flordia as it's always warm and takes ages to get dark. To us Brits - Christmas has to be cold! :rotfl2:

At least if you visit DLRP you can also add on sight seeing in Paris and maybe a quick trip to London?????

Good luck and let us all know what you decide

Janet

Hi Buttercup Roberts and welcome to DLP DIS board :wave2:
We are a friendly bunch here so please join in on any other thread or if you have a number of questions then just start a new thread for each :goodvibes

If you have not had a look yet, posting guidelines can be found here and details regarding help on signatures here

As you see everyone on here loves DLP. It has the largest Magic Kingdom park and since most of the stories that Walt used originated in Europe it has a unique charm :goodvibes

hi y'all. former disney store CM here - ive been to DLP 6 times as of next week :D and am planning on going out to work there late next year. i also am about to buy a Fantasy AP too, so hell yea its worth a visit! its never going to anything like on the scale of WDW, and never going to have the original charm and wonder the disneyland resort california has, but DLP has so much to offer. as everyone here has said, the theming is amazing, the hotels are beautiful and you couldnt want it in a better location - 40mins by train to central paris, or 2 and a half hours by train to london - direct.
so yes Future Orlando Resident, take the plunge - you'll kick your self if u dont.

Yes, it's worth the bother. The jet lag is even worse for us, traveling from California.
