i have called everyday for about 2 weeks now trying to get Ohanas for dinner on sept 9th-- i know its a long shot because its free dinning-- the only ressie they have for that day is 9:45pm!! What would you do? would you take the 9:45 ressie-- in hopes of calling and calling to see if something else opened up? Or should i keep my 6:25 pm ressie at Whispering Canyon? Which is better ? I am torn on what to do-- and wondering how the food would be so late at Ohanas-- I already posted this on the ADR cancel/trade board but nothing yet-- give me your opinions-- thanks so much~~:)

sure, we've actually booked all our dinners for about 9:30pm and one at Ohana for that time too. Our plan is to go on the beach at Poly and watch the 9:00 fireworks, then the water parade, and then head inside to Ohana's.

I am not sure if you are traveling with kids...no way would I take a 9:45 dinner spot with mine! They would be terrible little buggers at that hour.:sad2: No meal would be worth it!
However, if you are traveling without little ones, i would take the 9:45 if you really want to eat there. Like the pp said, you can watch the fireworks from the Poly beach, they have a nice lounge with lovely drinks (Ohana Colada specifically;) ) And the grounds are lovely to stroll while you wait.

If it were me, I'd keep the 6:25pm ressie at Wispering Canyon and keep calling right up until that day to see if an earlier time at Ohana became available. There's no way I would be able to eat dinner that late...especially an all you can eat dinner :scared1:. And I agree with a pp that I certainly wouldn't do it with kids . We have 2 teens and there's no way they'd make it eating that late.....and I know it's harder with little ones :scared:.

Well, you obviously picked Whispering Canyon for a reason to begin with so I say stick with it. Better time in my opinion. We didn't do Whispering Canyon on our recent May 08 visit or Ohana's actually but when I was making reservations for CRT and wanted breakfast or lunch, all I could get was dinner and the time was 9:45 and I took it thinking that would be the ONLY way to get it but....................I just thought it over and didn't want to do a dinner that late and then have it set on our stomachs all night and we liked booking a big breakfast so we opted for that. I kept calling CRT back hoping for a cancellation from someone else and low and behold, the day before we were leaving for vacation I was able to get a breakfast reservation for CRT because someone cancelled. So...........I would keep your Whispering Canyon and keep calling back if your desire is to do Ohana's instead. I wouldn't cancel your Whispering Canyone yet. 9:00 and after is too late in my opinion to be eating a big dinner. Goodluck!

We had a 9:40pm reservation for Ohana for our trip in Aug w/free dining. I had called everyday for about 3 weeks and then sporadically after that in hopes of an earlier ADR. No such luck. We have 2 kids, ages 7 & 10. Our only saving grace was Ohana opening up earlier times for dinner during free dining. We ended up getting a 4:30pm ADR for the same date and cancelled the 9:40pm.

This is our 1st trip to WDW and had Ohana on my list of must -do's. Had we not gotten the much earlier ADR, I think we still would have kept the 9:40pm and would have planned according for a late dinner (nap/rest earlier in the day). We have HDDR scheduled for our arrival day at 9:30pm:eek: . I figure by the time it's over and we get back to our hotel, it'll probably be past midnight. It was the only time available and our only day to do it, but we really want to do it. So we'll just deal with the late dinner and plan accordingly.

Take it but keep calling!!

Coral Reef had been booked solid for dinner September 9. I called a few days ago and was able to get a 7:00pm ressie for a party of 6!

oh my we would be asleep at the table...lol all of us. I would take it but keep calling, even call on the same day.I would also show up to check in at 9:00....we have done this and got in right away.

Keep the 6:25 ress. 9:45 for us that's way to late. At least for us it is.
Have a magical trip!

If you have kids I wouldn't take it, there is no way even my 7 year old would be able to stay awake through such a late dinner. If not, go for it! Go watch the fireworks and go eat. This was my must do this trip too, all I could get was 9pm and finally they opened up an hour earlier and I got a 4:25pm spot, not ideal for dinner, but I took it since I really wanted to eat here:goodvibes

ITA! This is exactly what I'd be doing.

I'd keep the Whispering Canyon ressie. We loved this place. We have not done Ohana, but have adr's for our upcoming Oct. trip. I don't mind eating late, but late to me is 8ish. If you don't mind the hassle of calling back multiple times and really want Ohana, then I'd wait and see if you can get an earlier ressie time. Otherwise enjoy WC, it's a lot of fun!

I think it depends entirely on you & your companion(s).

Our family (DH, DS14 & DD5) has a 9:30 PM res at Ohana, which is bit later than we'd like, but we eat dinner around 8 most nights most due to DH's schedule. Our kids are also very flexible and travel well. We would have been out that late anyway, and we'll hopefully get to see the 10:00 fireworks from there. We'll plan a nap that afternoon and a late lunch so nobody should be tired or starving.

Again, you know yourself & your family best -- plan accordingly.:goodvibes

We tend to eat late at home so this wouldn't be a big deal for us. We might just start our day a little later if we had an ADR that late. WCC is fun but Ohana is our favorite so if it was me, I'd keep the Ohana for sure!
