Hey DISers, i'm very skeptical about getting a new digital camera. I've been researching this for the past 6-8 months. Right now I have a Kodack CX630 3.0 Megapixel digital camera. I like it and it takes great pictures. We used it last year for our disney trip and the pics came out great. I printed them off our computer and made an album. If I do get a new camera it's going to be a Casio EX-Z600 6.0 megapixel camera with a 2.7 lcd screen. The camera is just a much better camera than my kodak. I've found the casio for $250 where it msrp's for $299.99. I just don't know if it would be worth getting a new camera where I have a perfectly good kodak to use in my trip in 2 months. If I did get the new camera I know it would probably be worth it but it's $250 more I have to spend on this trip plus a case, plus another battery....an input on this

IMO, almost any camera is better than Kodak. Kodak demographic is "easy to use" group, they are not concentrating on picture quality.

HOWEVER:
If you're spending $250 on an upgrade, you might as well get the Canon S2 IS which is better than the Casio you're thinking of buying. I don't think it's worth spending $250 for a semi-upgrade.

Just looked up the canon s2 IS ...its way to big...the casio is very thin and small...and thats one of the main features I like about it...

Bigger is better!!

being small is not a good feature.

Smaller camera = smaller sensor = worse picture
Smaller camera = smaller lens = worse picture
Smaller camera = lighter in weight = more vibration = worse picture

PRO FF dSLR (Canon 1Ds mkII) is large
PRO dSLR (Nikon D2X, Canon 5D) is large-ish sized
entry level dSLR (Nikon 50D, Canon Rebel XT) is medium sized
bridge camera (Canon S2 IS, Kodak P880) is small

like somebody else mentioned on this forum:

Kodak makes great films
Casio makes great calculator
Sony makes great TVs

I understand casio may make better products and not that great of cameras but i've actually gotten to play and use the ex-z600 and I love it. With the cameras I've tried at circuit city the casio kinda stood out over the canon's, olympus's, and sony's...I may just stick with the kodak though.

I am with you on size. The camera must fit in my pocket to be considered. I have a Powershot S70 and am very satisfied with it's quality of features and pictures taken. What does the toyota in your name signify? (We own 4 Toyotas)

seems like you've already made your mind. I'm sorry if I sound crude, but why bother asking people's opinion when your opinion is already made? and since you obviously don't care about picture quality, might as well stick to your KODAK and save the $250.

Toyotaae AE86 is an old corolla they used to make. It is used a lot for drifting which is a mainly japanese type of racing....making its way to the states..thanx for your input..

even that's untrue. Drifting is being popularized by the Japanese and is a very 'in' thing in Japan (also spreading around the world) but the "drift" itself is a technique one uses to make extreme turn while not having to brake in order not to lose momentum in a rally or race. I used to 'drift' even 15 years ago when I was doing rallies in Australia.

the ae86 trueno (not a corolla) is popular due to the anime series initial-d. as Kelly says, drifting has been around long before the recent media driven popularity.
it's a way of inducing oversteer and using the accelerator to control direction. in front wheel drive cars, using the handbrake is the beginner's way of doing it, and in rear wheel you use the normal brake to both of these come with some loss of speed and control. feinting, or transfering directional motion from the opposite direction of the turn into the turn to induce the oversteer (not quite 'turn right to go left, like in Cars, but almost!).

but i digress... BTW there is at least one very good Kodak digital - the DCS pro w/ EOS mount. it was slow and expensive, but it was full frame. it had a decent CMOS, and you could use L lenses (they also made a Nikon mount version). it was made by Sigma and personally i think the picture quality was better than the 1dsmk1. the 1dsmk2 and the 5D now blow it away in terms of picture quality.

0bli0, you are one lucky man. I bought one of those DCS Pro w. EOS mount and I can't get it working right, at least not until they replaced it 3 times. The 4th camera died on me after 2 months, they gave me a brand-new 5th camera and I re-sold it right away. That was my last encounter Kodak. From then on, I'm Kodaphobic. LOL!

I really hate to pick on my kodak 6490 because my dad bought it for me but its really not working for me.
It was my first digital and I was happy that he bought it for me but after 2 years of odd looking pictures Im ready to get something better.

my daughter has a 4 mp easy share that suddenly stopped working about 1.5 yrs after she bought it , thankfully after her last vacation rather than during... i thought it was fine ....till i got something better and found out it wasn't so great :)
