so....i have a nice camera. love it, really. and was thinking of using it for the most part for our upcoming trip in june, however, here is the buzz about photopass....
so tell me folks; what's all the buzz about??? if it's just adding a few photoshop points, i can't see paying the xtra. but if there's a real added bonus, please share the dish!:teacher:

The bonus for us besides the Disney effects is that our entire family can be in the photos, but I have heard that you can ask photopass photographers to take the pictures with your camera. I haven't done it myself.

okay, so the bonus is just having the whole family? do you have to pay for the entire cd to get that one pic or can you just purchase that one pic?

and hello, fellow tarheel!:cool1:

I'm no real help since I will be using PP for the first time this May. I pre-ordered the CD because like mrsbornkuntry said, I can get all of us in the picture. That's the biggest appeal to me. I've never asked a PP photog to take a picture with my camera in the past but I think that is a good idea! I'm a photographer but I am too nervous to take my dslr to WDW because of the frequent rain during the times we usually go. My point and shoot is good but I decided this trip to get the CD and see what kind of photos we get with PP.

:wave2: You can pick and choose which pictures you want to order and just get one or two pictures or even none, but there is an option to preorder the cd for $99 and if you think you may want more than just a couple of the pictures this is a good deal. Plus if you do this you also get the copyright for the cd so you can have the pictures printed anywhere.

Oh, and they also do special effects pictures where they will tell you to stand a certain way and they will put characters or balloons into your picture. Here's an example if I can get it to post:

I think there are several advantages of utilizing the Photopass Photographers. We used it on our last trip, and I am planning on preordering before our trip this fall. I think it is great to have pictures with all of our family together. Yes, I have a really nice camera, and yes, they will take pictures with your camera as well.

I like the special effects that they can add to your pictures after the fact - like what a PP posted, and others. I have my kids holding the balloons, Tink wings on my daughter, and a few others.

I also liked that I could go online after our trip and add various borders, character autographs, etc to the pictures. Our initial 125 or so pictures grew by a couple hundred more after I added borders/autographs/etc. I added various borders, etc to the same picture to have whatever borders I wanted to print them with at a later date. They all came on the CD(s).

You do not have to purchase the CD before or after the trip. You are able to go online and order a picture, or several, instead of the CD.

The advantage of preordering the CD is the $50 savings (about $99 when preordered vs. $149 ordering afterwards). If you preorder the CD and you are not happy with the pictures or decide it was not worth it after ther trip, you can call and get a refund of the prepurchase price.

There is the advantage of special effects the photopass people can add to your pictures but personally I think it's a waste of money. I only purchased a few pictures. It will be our 5th time to the World in October. I did take over 500 of my own however for free this last trip. (click on my photos in my sig to see my photobucket) And those pictures are priceless:) There are some that are photopass crazy but I would much rather spend my money elsewhere. That being said I probably will get some photos on the Dream when we go in October.

We love photopass is just the 2 of us so most of the time is just pictures of one or the other. We have had a great experience every time we used them. Once at Epcot the photographer decided to do a photo session of us it really wasn't very busy and there was many photographers. We have great pictures of that trip.

If you have kids that are going to want to go to a lot of character meet and greets it is a great thing, because you can wind up with a ton of photopass photos. Most of the major meet and greets have photopass photographers (some don't). You can edit the pictures on the website to put borders on them, add character autographs, crop, zoom etc. We find that sometimes the photopass pictures are much better than ours, and sometimes they are not. It is nice to have that back up. We also can get several pictures of the whole family together in different places using the photopass photographers. We usually wind up with close to 200 photopass pictures in a week's trip (after we do borders, crops, and other edits we usually have well over 500). You can buy each photo separately, but they are around $15 each. There is no way, I would only wind up wanting under 10 of the photopass photos, so we always pre-buy the CD.

Last summer, for our honeymoon, I pre-ordered the combo cd and book. We had a lot of fun posing (and kissing for pictures) around The World. When we got home, I did all the special stuff (borders, crops, etc) and designed the the book as a surprise for DH. My husband loved  the book!

I don't think I'd do it (photopass and the book) every trip, but it was definitely worth it for the special trip!:bride:

I have been to the World many times and finally broke down and pre purchased the cd for my trip last aug/sept. In fact i ordered it the night i got there i was so indecisive. I am so glad I did. I ended up with close to 1000 photos after adding borders. Because I go with just my two DD's I am so busy watching them that I always was forgetting to take pics. Let me just say I am soooo happy I did it. I had my DD2's first haircut done at the barber shop and a photopass person came in and took such great pics of the whole thing. At the characters they got some fantastic pics also as well as my absolute fav pics of both my girls in EPCOT in just a random spot.
I looked at it this way, I'd pre-order and if there were enough pics that I would actually buy (and I'm cheap when it comes to buying extras like pics) then I would just cancel it when I got home and get back my $100. I will be getting it again for my trip in Aug/Sept this year.

Go to facebook and look for photopass share. People who are going around the same time share the cost and put their photos on one cd. You used to be able to do this here, but then they changed their policy.

I know this must be a crazy question, but what exactly are you getting for the $99? You get a cd and then you can take it to walgreens or anywhere to print the pics? Or do you still have to order them from Disney? Do they include pics taken on rides? Thanks, I know nothing about them but may be interested for our trip in two weeks!

So here is the flip side to this...I pre-ordered the photo pass CD for $99 in May 2010. I came home with exactly 8 pictures on it! Not kidding. I was looking for these guys and either could not find them or didn't want to wait around for them, but mostly couldn't find them! I think for it to be worth the money you need to be willing to work at getting your picture taken. In the future I will just buy the pictures individually!

We love photopass. We give the photographers our camera as well, but I like having all the option of not having to take out our SLR everytime we see a photopass photographer. The preorder $99 is worth it. If they got rid of the preorder, I would have to think about it though.

We have used it twice as there are just the 2 of us and we like to get pix together for a change. I think it's a great price if you prepay. Can't remember the exact amount of photos we got, but it didn't all fit on 1 CD, when the package arrived it was on 2.
For us it takes the chore out of always having the camera to hand. We had loads of pix taken at MNSSHP and when the CDs came they had added free 'stock' pictures of the parade too. I have printed some pix out at home, but you can take the CD anywhere. You can also give friends access to see them for up to 30 days after they are taken on the internet. I let some of my DIS friends see ours.

i like the idea that i can get my money back if the photopass folks are hard to find or i just don't like the pix or don't have enough pix, yadda, yadda.

is that the usual policy or is this a special?

That is their usual policy. If you are not happy with the photos taken then you can get your money back.
