Is It Worth It If You Don't Do The Parks????

We will be going in June and for the first week we will be staying at Marriots Horizons with friends while we do the parks. I have been told that you must stay at a Disney hotle to get the Disney Dining Plan. After the first week we will be spliting the second at Vero Beach and DVC-BCV. We would be using the DDP when at the BCV, but we won't be going to any parks then. We have been wondering if it would be worth it when you aren't going to the parks.

I personally think it would still be worth it because the best resort restaurants are some of the best ones in my opinion.

Happy planning!

There are lots of good choices outside of the parks for the DDP.

For counter service (since you are at BCV) there is the Beach Club Marketplace and the Boardwalk bakery.

For Table Service, right in your area is spoodles, espn, beaches and cream, yacht club galley, and cape may buffet.

If you are willing to travel, there are great restaurants at DTD (both ts and cs) as well as at many of the other hotels (our favourites are Ohana and Kona Cafe).

I think it will depend on how you count the value of DDP and whether or not you will have a car.

I only include dinners in my calculations, and I count CS and snack credits as zero. That would be a good idea in your situation, because it's unlikely that you'll be getting much value from the CS or snack credits.

However, if you have a car, you should be able to get a solid 3 days worth of value from DDP eating at resort or DTD locations. For value alone, the twin lobster tails at Cap'n Jack's in DTD are pretty hard to beat. And there are a lot of other good choices, including some of the better character meals.

Without a car, it's pretty time-consuming to get from one resort to another. If you won't have a car, I think DDP might be more hassle than it's worth.

I would go for it, most of our DDP meals have been at the resorts. Kona is wonderful and a great value, our bill for dinner for 2 was well over $100. Even if you break even IMO its good because it's all paid for and there are no worries, if you want a dessert you can have it.
