Is it worth it...going from Value to Mod?

We have stayed at ASMo twice, CBR once, and CSR once. We are going back in March 2008 and it was a tough decision because it's about $600 cheaper to stay at POP as opposed to POFQ. We decided to go with POFQ because the atmosphere at the moderates is just so much different than it is at the values. We are two adults with no kids and to us, the value was so chaotic all the time! The food court, the bus stops, the pool, and even the lobby and gift shop. Once we have kids, we will probably go back to Values for a little while first, to save money, but also because kids seem to enjoy the theming at the values more. But until then, it's mods for us!


BTW, someone mentioned earlier that there are 2 sinks at the mods. CSR only has one sink per room in the Casitas buildings...don't know about the Ranchos or Cabanas.

Look at your budget and if you have the extra money for the mod then I say go for it. If it is tight then stay with the value. The mods have covered wait areas for the bus, no chains for ques, it seems more spread out so it give the appearance of less crowds. Coffee maker, fridge, double sinks, slide for the kiddies if it is warm enough to swim.

I have never been to a value so I don't know what they offer. I have read about some fun get togethers at the values.

If you would have ask this question last year, I would have said move to the mod. But, I think the Mod's have come down in quality and the price cannot be justified. I would stay at the value and save the money.

We stayed at ASMO Sept of 2006, and then POR Sept of 2007. In our opion most certainly worth it! I think the room is a lot bigger and more comfortable. I dont think I would stay at a value again.

We stayed at POR in May '07, our first trip to Disney. We stayed at POP which was our second trip. I do not think it is worth it to upgrade to a moderate for us. I think it depends on what is important to you.

POP had a better bus system than POR. It was also more compact, less walking after all the walking you do at the parks. We got in a fridge swap so we paid $10 for a fridge for our entire stay. You could probably get a fridge for free if you find an already existing swap with your dates open. POR was a lot more quiet, but I loved the atmosphere at POP better. More lively, better theming (in my opinion). My DD loved POP with all the huge icons, etc. POR was beautiful, but no theming for kids.

SO, besides a double-sink, a fridge, sit-down restaurant, and maybe a little more quiet, that's the big difference. To me, that is not worth a few hundred dollars. I'd spend that $ on food or souvineers.

If you have the extra $, I think it is worth it to stay in a moderate. (My family prefers POFQ. We didn't care for CSR.) We love the refrigerator in the room. (We save $ because we buy breakfast food/drink and eat in the room.) The double sinks are great, especially if you have older kids. Same for the curtain by the sink area. We found ASSp to be quite noisy.

I, personally, don't think it is worth $90 for a preferred over standard.

If you can swing it easily, choose mod. If it will tighten your budget, choose value. You will enjoy either one you choose!

We just returned from a split stay between a value (AS Sports) and a mod (CBR). The difference in price was $ 59 and $ 134. I would describe Sports as fun and exciting and CBR as quiet and beautiful. My kids definitely preferred Sports. I liked them both for different reasons. I don't think the difference in price, however, makes the mods worth it for the whole trip. The beds were actually more comfortable at Sports (refabbed room) and everything was more convenient. The arcade (a big hit) was much better at Sports and the food courts seemed very similar (but no root beer at CBR). CBR was very beautiful and the theming nice but the pool was nothing great. I did like the small beaches and hammocks. But I didn't really feel like it was so much better to justify the difference in price. Any thought to a split stay?

IPart of this is based on the fact that I'm driving and will bring my own coffee pot and expandable shower rod and cloth curtin to make the vanity area a seperate private room.

We stayed in one of the refurbished ASMu rooms this past August and there was a curtain to section off the sink area. From what I understand, all of the rooms at ASMu have been refurbished and I think they started on ASSp.

Maya Grill and Pepper market are on the DDP. It's on the list I printed out 4 days ago for the 2007 DDP and I also confirmed this when making ADRs for other restaurants.

My family has decided that the mods are not worth the extra money for us. We either want a value or a deluxe. If we are only going for 2 or 3 days, it's a value. If we are there for 4 or 5 days it's a deluxe. We feel if you are staying for 4 or more days it is worth the extra cost because you have time to enjoy what the resort has to offer. This year we were at the Poly for 6 days. We spent a whole day by the pool relaxing. We swam everyday we were there. When we are there for 2 or 3 days, we really don't find the time to relax at the resort because we are so busy at the parks. We can't justify spending the extra money if you don't have time to spend at the hotel. I would rather save the money I would spend at a mod. and put it towards a deluxe trip later.

I have stayed at POP twice and POFQ this last trip. I honestly loved all three trips. POFQ was a little nicer with some of the amenities that they had to offer. Plus, it was smaller and easier to manuever around. But for a family of four with young kids, I would stay at POP and use that extra money for presents or the dining plan.

We love the moderates, particularly CSR. Beautiful landscaping, less crowded buses and we use the fridge every day. Have a great vacation!

The place was cute and perfectly serviceable -- and our boys reported they liked the arcade at ASSp better than the one at GF (we moved to GF after two nights). We couldn't see much difference in room size between the values and moderates (we've stayed at CSR and POR). Frankly, even the GF room was none too large. For sheer roominess, CR can't be beat, IMO.

The one thing we noticed and really did not like at ASSp was the turbo toilet flushing noise night and day. If you can live with that, the values seems like a reasonable choice if your focus is going to be on the parks and not necessarily on the resort and its amenities. We decided to cut the price of the trip with a 2-night value stay since we knew for the first two days we'd be going day and night at the parks, including Pirate and Princess Party one of those nights. It worked out fine.

Would we stay at a value resort again after our two-night experiment? You bet!

You really didnt feel the differnce in size between Value and Mod? I thought it was a huge difference! Felt much more roomier to us.

I waited too late to book our room for this January and the only places available were the All Star Music or rooms at the Deluxes that were way out of our budget so I went with the ASMu. Hubby has never stayed in a value so I hope it's going to be okay. I doubt we'll use the pool in January and there's only the two of us so the one sink and smaller room shouldn't be that much of an issue. We were tent camping at Ft. Wilderness so I figure the ASMu just has to be an improvement. Besides, our total for the week is only $460 (less than Ft. Wilderness) and the cheapskate in me is thrilled with that!

You will have a great time. I think Disney did a wonderful job theming the Value resorts. You will enjoy checking everything out. All of the all stars are close together so you can enjoy each one if you have time. I think you will be happy. It's not worth paying extra money for a moderate when you are not going to use the pool. You will have fun.

As you can see from my signature, we've stayed all over the place --BUT never in a Value resort. Are the beds comfortable? For those of you who've stayed at a mod and a value, is there a difference in the comfort level of the bed? We are considering an impromptu trip but it would have to be VERY VERY BUDGETARY!!
