Is it worth it...going from Value to Mod?

We are going the last week of Jan. and it's about $300 more to stay in a moderate compared to a value.

We have 2 children (almost 3 and almost 6) and then me and my husband.

Is it worth it?

My kids (11 and 5) were just as happy at Pop as they were at YC. My experience with my kids is that they are happy to be at WDW, regardless of where we stay. My happiness is another story, though. We've stayed at POR and next year we are trying POFQ for 4 nights before DH joins us and we move to WL for 7 nights. My reasons for choosing a mod over a value are: 2 sinks instead of 1, coffee maker, refrigerator, privacy curtain that turns the sink area into a changing room (I hate changing my clothes in the tiny bathroom), somewhat larger room, pool slide, hot tub. It's worth the extra $$ to me, but I'm a deluxe gal at heart.

We prefer Mod over Value as we dont like the theming in any of the values we also like the wonderful pools w/ slides which is a deal breaker for the kids also the fridge and just larger rooms for us we deffenately go mod over value but thats just us

I am not too concerned with the pools...it was too cold to swim when we were there this past Jan.

So there is a refrigerator in the mods? That would be nice!

At Coronado Springs (and I am sure at the other mods) it's $300-$350 more......

I have the same questions. I was booked at POP but used the latest code and had to move to Sports. I am not as happy with that as I was with POP. I can upgrade to a Mod for $404. So far, I'm leaning tword sticking with the value. Part of this is based on the fact that I'm driving and will bring my own coffee pot and expandable shower rod and cloth curtin to make the vanity area a seperate private room.

If your at POP, I'd save the money and stay there. It has it's own bus system and is newer that the all stars.

When the AP rates came out I was debating between Values & Mods and actually chose to stay at the ASMu and save the money. I figure with what I save I can talk DH into another mini-vacation before the AP's run out!! Had leaned towards POFQ since we've already stayed at POR, but saving $50 per nite between the two was just too good to pass up!!

Totally worth it for my family.

We'd stayed at POP three times, then tried CBR, & we've never been back to another value. No way.

We actually joined DVC immediately after trying our first moderate.

I think a lot of depends on how much time you will be spending in your room/resort. With little kids, I would think you would travel back most days for a nap in the afternoon. You might want to factor that in. I have stayed at two mods and two values and usually it comes down to price and my financial situation at the time. I have had a great experience at POP both times I have stayed there. But I also love POFQ and CBR. It is a very hard decision to make. Good luck with it and just remember you can always come back and stay somewhere else next time.

It is a tough decision, but I think the moderates are absolutely worth the difference. The entire family has loved the values, but the difference in the feel of the moderate resort is, in our opinion, worth every penny. The moderates are beautifully themed, have a hot tub, a sit-down dining option, and indoor lounges. The rooms are more spacious inside, have double sinks, a more attractive interior, and fridges. Whatever you decide, you will be at Disney and you will have a great time. Good luck in your decision!

At the moderates....do you have the option of purchasing snacks (on the dining plan)?

Also would I want a water (or "preferred" view) or standard views? It's a $90 difference.

CSR does not have double sinks. All the other moderates do.

You can purchase snacks on the dining plan at all resorts in their food courts and in-house stores.

One thing to consider is whether or not the DDP is usable at the hotel you choose. Last week I was thinking of upgrading from Pop to CSR. Then I read that the the CSR's food court isn't on DDP. It's not worth it to me to have the plan and not be able to utilize it at my home resort.

The CSR food court is not on the dining plan YET. This may change as it did last year. The Pepper Market and Maya Grill at CSR are not operated by Disney so their dining plan contract for 2007 was done last minute - end of year - last year. My gut feeling is that they will be again this year but that is no guarantee.

To the OP it is a tough decision. Although I don't think you will make a mistake whichever way you do it. I don't think it is worth it for water view at mods. The rooms themselves are no different and sometimes what is considered a water view is borderline. When we stayed at POFQ our water view room overlooked the swimming pool, not the river. It still was a good location though.

for us, I would rather have the $300 to do something else with.

We go in january every year, and most years it is WAY to cold to swim.
We spend very little time in the room, if we are in there it is night or for a nap, so we don't mind the size.
we always bring food that doesn't need to be refrigerated for snacks and breakfast, but this year I signed on for a fridge swap so that is taken care of anyway as well.


When I make my res's, I always ask the upgrade price, but the difference always makes me happy to stay with a value

As my kids are 10 and 7, the main reason we do a moderate is for the great pool slides. If we weren't going to be having significant pool time, I probably wouldn't think it was worth another $400. The fridge and the curtained changing area are pluses, but probably not worth the price difference in my opinion. Personally, I would not pay the difference for a water view as we would not spend enough time in the room to really make it worthwhile. Have a great vacation - we are staying at CSR (for the fabulous pool slide) in April.

I personally think it's worth it... I've mostly stayed at the moderate resorts during my trips (been to all of them) and I've also stayed at AsMu (2) and AsSp (1) .... to me the moderates have better themeing and it makes me feel like I'm really "on vacation". Also the moderates have a sit down restaurant in addition to the food court which is nice... and as mentioned the pools have slides.

My husband, who does not care in the least about hotel rooms (he's stayed in some real dumps in NYC before we were together! ew!) even admitted that the POFQ was nicer than the AsMu when we went and he said he would even be willing to pay a little bit more for that extra theming.

Also, if you are considering Coronado Springs.. they also have a gym there (I think) and a spa! so you could have dad take the kids to the pool and mom could go get a facial and massage! OOHH yeah! My kinda vacation!

We only stayed at a mod once--POFQ around Thanksgiving about ten years ago. We found it to be much quieter than the All Stars, and that in itself was worth the extra money. We also liked the fact that there was an indoor lounge for the chilly evenings, the more subdued theming (we don't care for the "loud" theming at the values. The double sinks and slightly larger room was another added plus.

I could see DH and I booking a king room at a moderate again at some point in the future. But we'd never stay at a value again under any circumstances.

I can honestly say, I've always preferred the Values to Moderates. I've only stayed at CBR and POR, and while they were nice, found the Values to be more exciting and laid back. If they were both the same price, I would still stay at the Values.
