Is it worth going to Sci-Fi Dine-In for the atmosphere?

It sounds pretty cool, with the old Sci-Fi movies and the cars, but I heard the food is subpar.

Do you think it would be worth it to stop in for dessert or milkshakes around lunch or afternoon? :confused3

If so, what do you reccomend, and should we make ADRs? :confused3

If you're really into old Sci-fi movies, the Dine-in might be worth it. I went once and wasn't thrilled with either the food or the atmosphere. The cars aren't spectacular (they're actually kind of cramped and they all match), plus you may share a car with another party. In my opinion, not worth it, but I'm sure you'll get other opinions as well.

We like it - the food is better than it was a few years ago, but the atmosphere is the big draw. If you are seated with others depends on your group size.

Not the best place for conversation. My suggestion if unsure, go there for milk shakes. Their shakes are great!

We went once and weren't thrilled. I too thought the cars were cramped.

The movie reel was too short, so it quickly became boring as it repeated over and over.

This question gets asked a lot here. Do a search for even more replies, but in summary...

Yes, it is worth it once for the atmosphere. Stick to burgers, fries, onion rings, and shakes/malts for the best dining experience. The reuben is also fairly good.

I agree! After 3 trips, I kind of wish they'd change the movie reels though.

We love it!-the movie clips are campy and the staff is fun. We have always been pleased with the food, it's not le cellier, but that's not why we go there. The movie clip runs around 45 minutes, usually get through the meal without much repetition. The boys have always loved the cars, and gives you the same out at night feel of san angel.

We love the Sci-fi for lunch. We go with 4 to 5 people. You can sit only 2 to a row in the car. DH & I like it as a break form the kids for an hour. They sit in front of us & LOVE the silly movies. They are short clips of famous Sci-Fi B Movies. The food is good for what it is... Burgers & onion rings. I get a thrill going & having the hostess take me to my car on roller skates. Its dark & cozy.

We did it with our seven year old boy and six year old girl. The six year old girl's favorite meal was the PSB, but my son was almost as impressed with the Sci Fi as she was with the princesses. (And they say there aren't boys meals at Disney - this is definately a seven year old boy meal). The food was OK, and I'm not sure I'd do it again without children. But I enjoyed it once and will do it again with kids.

YES YES YES!!! we love it here! it's a fave!!! we don't go for the food at all (it's just a bonus!!)

You got to go atleast once!

It is set up like an old drive-in try to imagine your in the 50's.

The food is not bad.

It is fun.

Try it - you'll like it! :teeth:

Try it! We had a lot of fun. We found the food to be ok. But like others said the milkshakes are great!

I also thought the atmosphere was great! Dining in the cars under the "stars" is awesome. I'd recommend going there for lunch...it feels really good in there after walking around midday in the Florida heat!

I thought the burgers, fries, shakes and onion rings were great. We sat in the back at a small round table with an umbrella.

We were very glad we went, I would go back. And yes, get an ADR.

I agree with this. I would have been glad to have tried it even w/out kids at least once. Probably wouldn't go back with just Dh though. The food was ok but not spectacular. The atmosphere was very neat-dh and I enjoyed it. But the best part about the whole experience was the enjoyment all of our boys got out of the atmosphere. Sitting in the car, watching the movies, the stars, the funny waitress- they all loved it. 15 yo right down to the 2 yo. They were so entertained by it and relaxed at the same time that we had no trouble at all from them. They are pretty well behaved kids but with a 2 yo and a 4 yo together at a restaurant, you're very lucky to have a 1 1/2 hour meal w/out one single incident. But this time we did! I'd say try it for the experience at least once.

Sounds neat, what time would you go there if you had a reservation at 50s Primetime Cafe at 5:15pm?

How big are the portions? If we got a platter of onion rings could three people share them for lunch? :confused3

ADR a MUST. Both times we've gone, we've made ADR & watched as they were completely booked for the entire night by 11am. We love it here. You could easily split a hamburger & shake w/ someone & be full. :thumbsup2 Make sure you bring your corney sense of humor. If you're not one to interact w/ the CM, then skip it. That's part of the fun. Our waiter had a little boy waxing our car b/c he didn't have the money to pay for the bill.

I know this joint gets a lot of grief and there's no doubt its way too pricey, but I like this place. I like the atmosphere a lot and the food is OK. Its much better than that annoying Prime Time Cafe.

This is one of our favorites, and we definitely go for the atmosphere!

We love the atmosphere as well, DD got her "sci fi drivers license" there last year. It's fine is you eat a burger and fries :thumbsup2
