is it worth getting a view room at the dlh?

To me they are all worth it. I love the DLH. We had a great stay and I am already planning the next trip out. "My name is Michele and I am an addict!" Honestly.

Lives 4Disney - Hope your gang is feeling better and that you have a GREAT trip! Let me know all about it when you get back - I am really anxious being a first timer!

Where are ya'll staying in San Diego? We are going for a conference and are staying at the Del - so psyched! We don't even have to pay for it! YEA!:thumbsup2

Fidoprincess - I have learned sooo much in this thread! How did I miss some of this???

One question, I have a pool/resort view booked at the DLR. Should I call and add a DTD view to my requests on my ressie, or just ask at check-in and hope for the best. From my research and your post, I get the impression I can not guarantee this view without bumping up to concierge, and honestly, I don't think we'll need it.

Thanks for all the help!

Yes! Call and ask them to note it on your reservation and then call back again a day or 2 later and make sure they did it. Then about 3 days before you go, call again to double check! Even if they say there are only pool views left, ask them sweetly to just make sure it is noted on your reservation in case someone cancels. Then as you are checking in, make sure the CM sees the note in your request and remind her/him again with a big smile. I think that they do assign the rooms ahead of check-in but only a day or two before. Many people never make a request so the odds are good of getting what you want as long as you have paid for the "view". That is one of the main reasons we always always try to check in really early. We usually drive down and spend the night somewhere else (cheap!)first since we get there so late, too late to go to the parks or enjoy the hotel. Then as early as I can, I drag myself over to check-in usually by 8am, drop off our luggage with the bell desk and then hit the park until the room is ready. The benefit of checking in early is that if you do not like your room, they still have plenty of rooms to work with finding what you like better as opposed to checking in after all the rooms have been given out. I hope that makes sense!

Seems like a pain to do but I just love watching all the action. Not that the pool view isn't pretty, especially at night, but I love watching all the comings and goings at DTD and love watching the fireworks from the room when the kids are sleeping. I just like waking up and seeing the mountain tops and the TOT and the Grizzy bears head-lol.

If we did not spend so much time in our room because of the kids though, I would not even stay at the DLH-lol. I wouldn't care where we stayed because I would be doing the park from opening to closing and just fall right into any clean bed I could walk to!

Hi, 3 forMe......We are hanging in there - Thanks! The 3 girls here (me included) have all had this awful thing and I am PRAYING the guys don't get it. It is the pits.:guilty:

We are staying in a suite at Paradise Point in San Diego. It looks like a beatiful family resort and the room choices were awesome and LARGE and very nicely priced (we'll see if the pics are true, though) We leave Fri & I cannot even motivate myself to start packing. I am feeling so icky, still. I remember this time last year getting ready for our fabulous GF RPC stay and I am having some mega regrets that we aren't going back to WDW for this spring break. I am sure we'll have fun in CA, but I don't do so well with new experiences, LOL. I like to KNOW what I am getting into & what I have to look forward to. I have not been to San Diego in over 25 yrs, and never to DL, and never flew Jet Blue for that matter!! All new to me.

The Del looks lovely. I had considered it, but liked the pics and room sizes & location, prices etc. of the Paradise Point Resort better. I think I'd miss my Grand too much, too. ;) I hope you really enjoy it. :goodvibes

I will definitely at least PM ya with my thoughts after we return April 1.

I am really pulling for you all to get better! Here's some PD:wizard: :wizard:

I see you couldn't wait for that Thanksgiving trip and have a summer trip planned to WDW. O.K., fess up - did you book RPC for those three b-days?;)

You will LOVE Jet Blue! My daughter wants to go back to NYC just to fly Jet Blue and see some more plays!

Have a great time at the DLR! PM me when you get back!

Fidoprincess - Thanks again for the fabulous suggestions! I copied them into my Word Document that has all my DLR suggestions/information. :thumbsup2

Lives4Disney, You will have a wonderful time, don't worry!

We LOVE jet blue too. I know they have been getting some bad press but the plane itself is heavenly! Big cushy comfy leather seats and each seat has its own tv/movie screen built into the seatback in front of you. Really, really nice but I did notice that they only had a few pillows and blankets so grab them on your way to your seat. Just in case you haven't traveled in a while, you can buy food and stuff to take on the plane once you pass through security. My kids love the pizza places so I always buy them a personal pizza each to carry on along with a treat. Unless your flight is really long, they don't feed you anymore. We fly coast to coast but because we always have a stop somewhere in the middle, no one leg of our flight is long enough to get food.

Try to rest up until you feel much better but throw a couple of loads of laundry in so you will be ahead of the game. Packing can be such an ordeal but I always overpack and bring too much stuff so remember less is more and also don't overload your luggage, 50 lbs is the limit these days!

You will love San Diego! I could spend days and days there but the ocean is the exact opposite of Florida, cold and rough so don't be surprised. I hope you are getting to do all the fun things like Seaworld and the Zoo (do the tram first there!) It is fun and then to top it all off with a DL trip is just the best!!

3 for Me & Fidoprincess - THANKS!

Thanks for the info on Jet Blue. We are pretty frequent fliers, but it isn't my favorite thing to do & now trying a new airline......(you get the picture - I'm nervous!!!)

I HATE to pack and I TOLD myself I was NOT going to overpack this trip because it makes coming home to all that dirty laundry soooo much more awful, but I am looking at the clothes I have laid out and it looks like my promise to myself will be a bust. I am a chronic overpacker. :flower3:

Fidoprincess - thanks for taking the time to post all your great tips and info. It's appreciated. :goodvibes

OK, say a prayer for me (if you're so inclined ;) )....I have to go have a second, advanced view mammogram now. Had one last week and need another. :sad2: I am hoping it's just them and not me. Maybe once I get past this cruddy day & hopefully get some GOOD news, I will feel more like a vacation.

Take care,

Lives4Disney :)

Lives4Disney - When you get back, I'd love to hear how you guys like the Paradise Point in SD :goodvibes We are making a couple trips to SD this summer & we were considering that as a choice, but would love to hear some "first hand" reports. We have 2 small girls (2 & 7) and their pools & recreation options looked really nice.

I can see where you might be nervous going somewhere unfamiliar...but compared to WDW, DLR is very easy. Once you are there, you will see what everyone says is so true. Everything right at your finger tips.
Also the Paradise Point is beautiful and lush. Keep in mind that it is on the bay, and not the ocean. Have never stayed there, but have walked around it. And since you are GF fans, be sure you still go to the Hotel Del Coronado just to look around. The grounds and hotel are beautiful. The beach was chosen on Travel Channel as one of their top ten for US. Also would try to see La Jolla. Very classy and upscale beautiful area and beach. I guess the list could go on. I know you only have so much time.
I think you might really like DL. It is very charming, and you just might be pleasantly surprised! But PLEASE don't be too shocked at the castle! Most WDW vets are. It was kind of funny, that the first time we went back to DL after visiting WDW, my daughter said "WOW it is way smaller than WDW's!":rotfl:
Oh, and I hope your mammogram goes well. I WILL keep you in my prayers!:flower3:

THanks for all that great vacation info!! I keep hearing about the castle size differences....It's funny because the Sleeping Beauty castle doesn't look all that small in the planning videos!! The magic of pictures. ;) All is well w/my mammo! :cool1: My mom had breast cancer young, so this whole scare made me worried. No I just have to get my butt in gear and pack. ;)

CrocsRus - I will let you know how Paradise Point goes. I knew it wasn't on the ocean, and that's fine with me. It had water views and the area looks really pretty. It will be fairly cool, but I KNOW my girls will want to swim - so we will check out the pools. You can walk to SeaWorld & the zoo is really close and it just looks really pretty.

Happy planning,

Lives4Disney :)
