Is it worth eating at Art's Homecomin' at 930 pm.

Title probably gives the lowdown. My family is from the coastal deep south, So good southern Isn't necessarily hard to find, but my husband still loves it.

I prioritized getting a breakfast rez for Topolinos, So when I looked for a dinner reservation at homecomin, the earliest was 930 pm.

Is the restaurant that good? My youngest child is eleven so we can stay up. But I don't want to wait that long if it's one of those places that doesn't really live up to the hype.

I'm not sure I'd book for 9:30. It's late, especially for "heavy" food. Maybe keep monitoring it, hoping for a cancellation, or sign up with Touring Plans reservation finder? Also, I hear that many people cancel their reservations day-of, even only a few hours in advance. Maybe you could snag one of those?

That's what I'm hoping for.

I would take a chance on a walk up. Chef Art Smith's is known for holding back quite a few reservations for day of, walk ups. Whenever you want to eat, stop by the podium and ask how long a wait there is. If it's not a Saturday night you'll probably get a table quite quickly. I see people being seated as walk-ups there all the time.

We live South of Atlanta. Food is solid but I’ve had much better Southern food. They try to do southern gastopub. I wouldn’t inconvenience myself for it on any of my trips.

It's a favorite of ours, but it won't be unique or mind-blowing compared to what you can get at home (for a fraction of the cost...).

They hold about half of their tables for walk-ups which is why reservations are so hard to snag. We've eaten there dozens of times, in fact, and probably only once with a reservation. I would not eat anywhere that late, especially not heavy southern food. Just pop by when you're at Disney Springs and see if you can snag a table at a normal time.

For us, Art Smith's was a bit underwhelming as we are also from the south and have as good if not better versions of everything on their menu at restaurants all across our home town. It was most certainly a one and done for us at WDW. I can totally understand why people enjoy it if they don't have those southern staples readily available in their area.

I don’t think it’s worth a 9:30 reservation. We loved it when it first opened but it faded quickly for us. We gave it another shot in Jan ‘23 and it missed the mark again sadly. If you want to try, I’d do a walk-up as suggested.

Also being in the south, I can name a couple gas stations near me with better chicken than Homecomin'. It seems all their specialties are just mediocre to us.

I guess it's a place to go just to say you tried it, but we don't see a reason to go back.

A 9:30 dinner, for us, would be a definite no.

I always hear of people getting walk-ups though.

For those that think it's not all that, What is the one Disney Springs restaurant that is a must do for you? We really haven't been to most of them.

Homecomin' is very good. And walk-ups are usually no problem when not at peak dining times.

I like Polite Pig for a reasonable price and good food. I'm not sure it's a must do. And Splitsville (upstairs) has very good offerings at decent pricing as well.

We like Polite Pig.

We also like Frontera Cocina.

Morimoto is good, but, not every trip good.

Next one I def want to try is Jaleo.

We used to eat at the same places every trip but recently we decided to try new restaurants.

Next week will be our first time at Jiko, Topolino's & Summer House on the Lake.

Think it really depends on what type of food you’re looking for. There have been no restaurants that I’ve had that I flat out didn’t like at DS. Polite Pig is good bbq, but depending upon what’s around you may not be impressive.

I always enjoy Raglan Road just because I enjoy a pub and like the atmosphere. I’d say my favorite currently is Paddlefish, but Summer House is still on the list to try.

Sadly, TP’s reservation finder is out of service currently. However you can still look for an ADR via Mouse Dining using a free or paid account; your choice.

That is one heavy late meal that isn’t really all that good anymore. When it first opened it was good. But past few years. Not all that great. Go to polite pig for some smoked meats. Much better.

Also for downtown. What we feel are good.

Homecomin’ was disappointing for us last year. I was really excited for it, after seeing Art on so many cooking shows over the years.

It was one of two reservations I woke up at 4:50am CST to get (Space 220 was the other).

Food is fine, nothing special. Drinks are ok. It was nice to sit near a window looking at the water.

9:30PM to me would need to be absolutely spectacular and while it is good it is not that good - I would agree with most of the others and try to walk up or go somewhere else.

Our favorite in the springs is Frontera Cocina - we always enjoy it.
