Is it worth adding this celebration to our ADR?

Hi,
We have made our ADR's for October, but I was thinking whether to "add a celebration" to one or more of these. Our daughter (aged 8) is having to move schools in September to a specialist school that can better meet her social and communication needs (she is being assessed for ASD). I thought it might be nice to "celebrate" this during our trip rather than her see it as a negative thing.

I see that online you can retrieve ADRs and "add a celebration", one of which is "personal triumph" but is it worth it? Will they actually recognise it?

If so, which restaurant would be good to do this? Maybe a character meal (we are booked for CRT, Akershus, Chef Mickeys, Crystal Palace!) or something like Ohana? In something like CRT or Akershus would the Princesses come and say something about it? Any tips? Or just add it to every ADR and hope for the best?

Thanks everone,
Matthew

The 'recognition' is often just CMs saying "Congratulations on XXXXX." I would not expect anything special, although you may get a cupcake or something small special like that - no promises though.

Since she is 8, I would find out how she feels about it. She may feel OK about it, but many 8 yr olds without any special needs don't like people 'noticing' them and a child with potential ASD may really not want anyone saying anything to her at all.

If she wants to do it, rather than add it to ADRs, I would suggest instead going to Guest Relations and getting a celebration button. The CM will write on it what you are celebrating - whatever you tell them.
That way, if she wants people to 'celebrate' her, she can keep the button on. If she thinks she wants to do it, but changes her mind or it becomes too much for her, she can just take the button off.
With it noted on ADRs, you don't have that option - it will be noted on the ADR. You can individually tell each one that you don't want to celebrate when you check in, but there is a chance someone will forget.

Again, I would ask her if she wants the button and wants this recognized or not.

They don't really make a big deal. As PP said, you might get a server who will recognize it, but thats about it. You can order a specialty cake ( for an extra cost) if you want to ham it up and make a big deal out of it. It might do her good to see that it is a good thing that she is changing school and is something to celebrate. I'd run it by her a little bit and see how she feels, if she doesn't like the idea then it's best to find out before.

How about a nice gift basket or cake delivered to your room in honor of your celebration? That way you are in control of it and it can be as big of a deal as you want it to be.
