I have res for ASMov in December. I recently got a good discount with the Disney Club Card and am now thinking of upgrading to a moderate. Is it worth $50/night to upgrade? Who has been to both and can tell me? I have two small children and thought they would love the AS, but am still tempted to change to get a better room and be closer to the parks. Would love to hear from everyone!

Thanks.:p

Not in my opinion.

As far as being closer to the parks, All Stars are pretty close to AK (as close as the moderate CS), and not too far from MGM.

Other moderates are close to other parks but none are convenient to all four.

I feel the room size and fact that moderates still only have double beds doesn't make it worth the upgrade.

However if a pool slide or a hot tub are very important to you then you need a moderate.

It would definitely be worth it to me. We stayed at the All Stars once and vowed to always stay at the moderates or a deluxe. The All Stars were noisy and crowded. We usually had to wait for two buses to be able to board. If you are checking prices also compare the AKL or WL. For this summer we booked WL for $50 more per night than what the All Stars would have cost. We could have done AKL also. Something to consider.

I'm no big fan of the AllStars, stayed there once and didn't care for it, we love the moderates, have stayed at all but the former Dixie Landings; HOWEVER, $50/night is a big percentage jump up and I'd probably stick with the AllStars. If you got down to $30 difference ($59 at AllStars to $89 at mods, which have been the lowest rates in the past), then I'd do it.

Well, maybe I'd pay $50 more if it was just a 2-3 night stay, but $350 more for a one week stay, no.

Not worth it for me.
As for proximinty to the parks, that doesnt really matter since either place you still need to take a bus. None of the rides are too long. In fact, when we stayed at ASMO, we found the bus service to be wonderful...even better than at DXL.
While we enjoyed our stays at DXL, after staying at ASMO, I would have a hard time going back to a moderate. There was so much more we prefered at ASMO. And Im not even considering the money factor. What would your kids prefer, nice landscaping, water, etc...or a giant Buzz Lightyear & Woody, etc...?

It's also not worth it to me. I've stayed at All Star Music and Sports and CBR. While I liked CBR better than the AS Resorts, I didn't like it $50 per night more. I would keep your reservations and save your money. Your children will love the All Stars and, IMO, the food court and bus service cannot be beat!

We usually set our pricing point differential at about $25 to $30 a night. RIght now, when FL residents can get a mod for $84 or All Star for $69 it's a no brainer. But, when All Stars are going for $49 and the best mod rate is $89 - I'm more likely to stay at the All Stars.

How important a trip is this for you? How frequently do you go to WDW? If this is a "big deal" trip, go with the mod. Otherwise, choose AS.

With 2 smaller children and $50 per day, I would not upgrade. Smaller children love the All Stars with their larger than life icons, clean, large pools and fun game rooms. Smaller kids also love food courts! If the difference becomes $20-30, I might consider it, but again for smaller children, the All Stars work really well. Have fun!:p

I enjoyed the All Stars and if I had any kids to take to WDW would probably start out there as I think kids would prefer it to most of the other Disney resorts.
If the $50 a night is not a burden to you than yes it is worth it. The moderates are wonderfully themed and have fun pools and good food courts and marinas. The kids would have fun there as well.
If the $50 is stretching it a bit then the All Stars are perfect! :)

I would not upgrade.
Well, depends on how many days you're staying. 7 days times $50 will add up. I would rather use the money for gifts / food.

Secondly, depends on which moderate. But to be honest, I found the bus services in AS much better than the other moderate. Because there are so many rooms in AS, they actually have more buses, and more frequent. Yes, sure you may have towait for 2 buses to board, but it'll be within 10 min .

And then, how much time you're spending in your room anyways? The pools are noisy in every resort. AS food court will be packed, but so will moderate. I would only upgrade to really good resort like AKL or GF.

Save the money, and stay in AS.

I struggled with the same decision - ASMov or CBR. We're going for a whole week and ultimately decided on the CBR.

We like the fact that CBR is centrally located and provides a bit more comfort and service than ASMov. Also with a whole week at WDW we felt an afternoon poolside at the CBR would provide us with a vaction from our vacation!

Another vote for the All Star Movies!!! We've stayed at deluxes, Moderates and the Movies and my little one definitely prefers the Movies!!! In fact, last year, we flew in and arrived around 12:30 AM. My 5 yr old had fallen asleep on the way from the airport. When she heard the CM say we were in 101 Dalmation section, she woke up and practically danced all the way to the room! We've stayed in Love Bug and Dalmation and both times, it was very quiet. (Our stays at the AS Movies have both been end of Nov/early Dec). Also, I thought the bus service at the All Stars was great - even better than bus service at the Contemporary.

When we go in the summer, we usually stay at a deluxe because of the amount of time we spend in the room - for our nap/swim breaks. For our short trips to see the Christmas decorations and shows, we don't go back to the room or swim (in 2000, I thought it was too cold; last year it was warmer, but we didn't get back in time for swimming).

With kids, I would stay at the AllStars. We have always done AllStars until this May. We went to POR, since our diff was only $10. Our grands loved the slide, but didn't use it that much to make it work a $50 difference. We had to go back and visit the AllStars, and our grands wanted us to promise, that the next time they go with us, we'll stay at the AllStars (we like the Sporst).
As adults (we are going back to POR in August), I'd save the money, but hubby loves the shade at POR, since we'll only do the parks one day, and the resort is wehre we'll be spending most of our time.

The only big advantage the mods have over the All Stars is the pool slide. As far as proximity to the parks goes.....I think the All Stars have the best bus service. A lot better than when we stayed at CBR one Christmas.:)

For $50 a night, I would stay at an AS. If it was $50 TOTAL, then I would go with a mod, as long as it wasn't POR/FRQTR.
But we just aren't in our rooms enough to justify the extra $.

We have stayed at ALL the Moderates in the past and I swore I would never stay at the 'projects'. However, we got a great rate for ASMu last week and by having 8 of us go (2 connecting rooms) we saved close to $1000 for the week by staying at the ASMu.

The food court blew the moderates out of the water. The Arcade was great. The bus service was exceptional. Check In was a breeze. The pools were pools, not as fancy as the moderates, but still extremely clean and fun to play in. They say the rooms are smaller than the moderates, but we couldn't tell the difference. The only thing that I was disappointed in was the fairly long walk form our building (Country Boot) to the bus stop, but then again when we stayed at CBR and CSR we had pretty long walks to the food court).

As long as I have kids and live on a budget, we will stay at the All Stars from now on, although we may give Pop Century a shot if they are the same price as All Stars.

Hope this helps!
