Is it weird going alone?

My first trip to DL in October will be a solo trip! My first trip to WDW in 2013 was also a solo trip. Having travelled around the US (I'm Australian) for 6 weeks pretty much alone, I'm completely used to it. I enjoy doing what I wanna do and eating when and what I wanna eat. For me the only downside is I don't get as many photos of myself on solo trips, because I'm not great at taking selfies.

I go to Walt Disney World solo all the time 2-3 times a year. I love going solo.
I get to meet so many nice ppl from all over.
I am making my first visit to DL this fall Sept 18, 19, 20.
Really excited about my 1st visit to DL and DCA. I've been doing alot of research, since DL and WDW have some differences.

I am in the planning stages of a solo trip next May. It didn't start out being that way but one daughter isn't sure if she wants to go and the other one will be finishing school/starting a new job (with any luck) at that time. And since this is MY trip, I decided fine, I will just go alone. At first I was thinking I would just do a short 2 day trip but the more I thought about it I figured I would not some off site exploring that I could never do if I was with other people.

I really appreciate all of the thoughtful replies! I know that I will miss having my family with me, but at the same time, I am so looking forward to doing what I want to do! :)

*shrug* I'm going alone, and I never once felt weird about it

I think it'd be nice and relaxing, being able to do whatever I want when I want to do it; not to mention single rider lines with an actual purpose

It really is relaxing and quite enjoyable when you're alone at the parks; even if you don't ride anything, just the aspect of going where you want to go at anytime and enjoying the park atmosphere is great!

I agree with others on here. It's only weird if you think it's weird.

First time I went by myself was for my 30th birthday. I was meeting a friend in L.A. for a golf weekend and got there a day early so I decided to spend a day in the park. I hadn't been there in 13 years and was really looking forward to seeing what was new and revisit old memories from my childhood. The 50th celebration was still going on, so I got myself a happy birthday sticker (they either hadn't started the birthday buttons yet or were out of them), a pair of golden Mickey ears and hit it. For me, It felt like having the whole park to yourself. You can go where you want to, when you want to. I chatted up people in line from time to time, hit all my favorite rides and ones that were newer than my previous trip (Like Indiana Jones). I didn't realize it at the time but it was also the very last day that POTC was open before being closed for adding the Captain Jack theme. Being my favorite attraction, it's a cool thought that I was one of the very last people who got to experience the (mostly) original version of POTC.

The only time it felt weird was standing in line for Alice in Wonderland. I was the only single adult male in that queue and I started wondering to myself how creepy this might appear to the families in line with me. lol It was all in my own head though and I quickly got over it.

Only recommendation I would have is to take your time. Having been so long since I had been there, not having a group to slow me down some and the fact that it was only for one day, I think I rushed myself through too fast in order to squeeze as much as possible into that day. I've come to realize that I enjoy the park better at a leisurely pace and having something to look forward to for next time helps keep it fresh for me.

I love my solo trips! That's not to say that I don't have a great time with friends, but I have a different kind of great time when I am by myself.

Interestingly, there was an article in the Los Angeles Times a couple of weeks ago about solo trips to Disneyland, the writer of which confessed how much he enjoys his solo visits. I know it sounds silly, but I think that the fact that a writer for a major newspaper (in Los Angeles, of all places) came forward with his love of solo trips to Disneyland will help to dissolve some of the stigma or weirdness there may be in people's minds about it.
