Is it typical to see January discounts?

Since this is a slow time of year, do they typically release discounts for January? We've never been at this time of year but are hopeful they will even though they are scaling back. Just wondering if this is typical sort of like free dining the end of August? Thanks!

My family and I have been twice during this time of year, in 2009 we went in February on the 4/3 deal, and then this year we went in January, again on the 4/3 deal. We are planning yet another January trip for next year, and have our fingers crossed for another deal! :)

Oh, that would be fantastic!! I so hope this is true! Can I ask if you prefer January to February? I'm on the fence between the last week of January and am worried about tour groups or first week of February? Haven't been for either!

I'm eying a January trip also. It will be the first trip to Disney for our second son.

Any idea when we should expect discounts for Jan. if they are released?

We went February 10-17 in 2009, and I found it to be more crowded than January, but still nice. We went January 10-17th this year, and although it was freezing it was great! Light crowds, got all the ADRs I wanted and all that fun stuff :) I prefer January, but both were nice :)

Thanks for the info. It doesn't sound like you encountered a whole lot of tour groups then. That's a big plus!! Thanks again!

Oh, and from what I have read, they release the discounts in November. Let's hope they do it again!

Do you think, over the course of a week-long stay in January or February, there would be just *one* day with waterpark weather? (like mid 70's or so). :)
(sorry to be off topic)

When we went in Feb of '09 it was slightly warm, into the low to mid 80's, and we swam a lot at CSR Dig Site pool. We didn't visit any water parks because our sons were only 1 and 2 at the time. This year when we went in January, it was during that very odd cold snap. It was absolutely freezing (literally), but the last day of our trip it warmed up (maybe low 70s) and we swam... we were cold, but the kids really wanted to swim so we did.

It could go either way, with FL it seems like you never know :confused3 :)

I want to go in Jan too. Should I wait and book or can I book in advance and apply the discount later? I'm even considering staying onsite on night in Aug just to hope for a bounce back. Is that crazy??

We are booked at the YC for Jan. 2011. I reserved our rooms in March of this year. We always book early and then wait for the discounts to come out and the CMs will add them. I want to book the hotel and room catagory to make sure I have it when the discounts come out. We have been in January the last 3 years and in Feb twice and a few other months thrown in there and we prefer January. Crowds are very light, weather is nice, we don't have any problems with getting ADRs (we always make them just in case) and fewer tour groups. We have noticed the there are a ton of people who come up from South America during January but they are not near as bad as the December we went and had Pop Warner kids.

Humm, I just tried to book and it won't let me book anything past Dec 31. How'd you book Jan already?

We go in January most years. We love the lower crowds, but don't enjoy the tour groups. We know that we most likely will never get in the pool during that trip and make sure we pack the sweatshirts, gloves and hats. We'll be booking our January trip in a couple of weeks, but next January (2012) we are planning to go the entire month of January (love my DVC). Of course we also go for 2 weeks in May and 2 weeks in October, so we do manage to warm up during those trips.

WE LOVE JANUARY!!!!! :goodvibes

Coming down from Northern Ontario it is such a nice break from our COLD :cold: winter weather! :thumbsup2

We were fortunate enough to be able to go to Disney the last 2 years in the Buy 4 get 3 Free deal that Disney had!

Here is my 2 cents - for what its worth -

WEATHER - In 2009, we were there the week after MLK day. The first few days were pretty chilly! Still much warmer than it was at home so we were fine. The locals however were wearing parkas and hats and mitts! It did warm up quite a bit and we did swim at the pool but we didn't go to a water park.

This year we went a week later and the weather was PERFECT!!! It was between 75 and 78 degrees ALL WEEK LONG!!! I think we had the best weather of the whole month! Our last day there was only 52 degrees and it was COLD!!! By that time we had acclimated to the weather so it we were pretty chilled even though we were wearing jeans and sweaters!

The weather is pretty much unpredictable but the crowds are unbeatable!!

There were tour groups there but you can avoid them if you see them - they travel in large groups and all wear the same colour shirts and have large flags that they carry with them wherever they go!!

Last year we were in Disney for 10 nights. This year only 7 and I would say that we were able to do just as much in 7 days with fewer crowds then we were able to do in 10 days with slightly higer crowds!

We are hoping to try early February next year only if Disney puts out a deal or we get a good PIN. Other wise it will be a year or more before we are able to go back again! :sad1:

Check out my TR from this past January if you are interested!! :)

EDIT - btw - Discounts for January-MArch usually come out in AUGUST - NOT NOVEMBER!!!

Thanks for clarifying this! That's even better. I was looking at mousesavers and thought it said that they came out in November but August would be sooooo much better!! Thank you!

We spent three vacations at Disney in January. The first was perfect -- warm weather, low crowds and lots of fun. The next trip was absolutley freezing! We had to buy hats, mittens and coats as the temps got into the low 30's during the Pirates and Princesses Party. The next year was around 70 degrees and better. It is a nice time of year to go, but pack an extra sweatshirt just in case. We are going at the end of October/early November this year for the first time and I am curious to see the difference.

We have gone twice in Jan with the buy 4, get 3 free deal. This year we went at the end of the month into Feb. Last year we went mid month. We always had a few cold days and a few warm days. I was in shorts at least once on both trips, and it has to be really warm for me to wear shorts. :rotfl: We ran into a lot more tour groups in mid Jan. And they were not well behaved. We just saw one this year, but those kids were great. We saw them all over and the whole week. Hope my kids behave that well if they are at a theme park without me! :goodvibes
